07 Dyna with Thundermax LOWEST IDLE
*******************************************
Why do you want to do that (you might say)?
Well for many reasons,
from fuel economy
to harley sound
to engine overheating (not now in winter),
but it is good to know,
to improving the 1st gear engagement thus avoiding the typical "CLUNK" and so on.

they were tuning for fuel economy at idle.
At best I guess you go from 0 mpg to.......
The idlesound I didn't like, so I put in 11:1 pistons
and a high lift cam with a radical profile.
Now it sounds like a hopped up small block Chevrolet.
Keep us updated, and Happy New Year to ya.

I would think that if the oil light comes on it is too late, you have probalby cooked something by then. I look at the light as saying you have had a failure and need to take it ot the dealer for a look see. Why do they call them idiot lights anyway?

I doubt very much that the old carburetted bikes had a better oil pump than the actual one and of course we are talking about an engine idling, not producing handfulls of power.
You could make an engineer supposition: there is a +/- 10% of error on there, oil may be pumped at ~800rpm but for safety they keep it at 900rpm. But it's a supposition.
You could make a test and check oil flow in the engine at different idles. If you have the patience and equipment. Or you could just keep it at 750 to see if it breaks or not.
If you don't see the oil pressure light on, it means that the oil pressure is over the dangerous zone, but it doesn't mean it's good. You may have a slight difference that in the long term may cause a problem. Even you could burn more oil as it will stay more time in the engine while idleing.
However, this is just theory. You can do whatever you want to your bike.
In any case, which advantage do you see on lowering the idle?

At 880rpm it sounds (to me) as close to an EVO as you can get, .... at 864 or 825rpm it really didn't sound that much better and under 800 it actually stalled once, so i went back to 880 and for the last 10,00 Km i have had NO probs at all. There is so much written about this, (but mostly by internet mechanics), as I like to call 'em..... the only intelligent comments i have ever read are:
1. Voltage is drawn from the battery so, (as you said), that is not a prob.
2. The oil light does come on at about 725rpm, so that is too low.
Being an old school "luddite" I couldn't stand the "sound" any more and bought a '98 carbed EVO fatboy, converted to chain drive and points ignition and have never enjoyed riding more. And yes, THEsound is back!.. might even sell the TC. I'll get flamed ( BY SOME, not ALL ), for this.. but...... i think EFI bikes are like cex with a mechanical arm .. as oppossed to a carbed bike being like havingthe real thing... ie: a blonde aussie beach babe. I know which i prefer.
Graham.
it's being a year and a half now sinds you put down your idle speed.
How things are going today?
I'm curious to hear your experience, because yesterday I put my idle down to 800 rpm on my 07 SB with T-Max.
