Been riding to work this past week, Been in the low 30's/high 20's (4am central texas), and everyone is telling me how stupid I am for doing so. So i figured I'd ask how cold is too cold for y'all to go riding? (myself... as long as the roads are passable, and the bike will start... I'll ride)
NoVA rider; was out today in the low-to-mid 40s. I find sub-40 to be on the cold side unless I am really bundled up and generally won't go out unless its over freezing....
No ice or frost on the road. I don't think they use salt in this part of GA. At least I haven't seen a reason for them to. I've ridden in snow on the old SR500. It was just that, fresh snow. I had to "break trail" since all the cars were off in the ditches. I don't think the V-rod will take too kindly to snow.
I've ridden 60 miles at 25 degrees and 12.5 miles at 17 degrees. I'd say no more than 15 miles at temps around 20 degrees would be my limit unless I would finally break down andbuy someheated gloves.
Anything below 72 is cold for me, but then I'm an old guy.
Actually, I'll ride down to about 40, but not more than 10 miles.
I spent 10 days in Denver for my workin November and I would go out and get in the rent car in 25 degrees and turn on the heater and then go back in the hotel and eat breakfast, then ride to work and see many bikers shooting pass me.
I went into Sun H-D to get some T-shirts and there was a young lady about 24 and about 85 lbs.. I said to her "the bikers here sure are tough" see looked at me and asked where I was from. And then she said that she had riden to work that morning on her 1200 Sporty. She said "we call itlayering-up". Then it dawned on me that all of the bikers there look like the Michelin Man.
She also said "if you want to ride here you have to do it in all kinds of weather".
