6.5 ft bed. If I had put the bike in at an angle I think the tailgate would have closed. But even straight in the rear tire contacted the box completely in the truck.

Looks like I could get by with that if I either removed the tailgate or if I do something to get my trailer jack out of the way of the tailgate. Then I just need to find a place that will allow me to unload and reload the bike when I get down there...

Thats a big camper for a bumper hitch, does your truck squat much? Do you have time to mod the RV to allow a bike to fit in it ))) Good luck bro!
The camper is an ultra-lightmodel and is well within all the gross and combined weight ratings for my truck, etc. Believe it or not, it weighs less than 6000 lbs unloaded. Truck still squats but, being a Dodge with the rear end stuck up in the air anyway, the truck is level after the squat. Pulled it from Northeastern NC to DisneyWorld and back this past summer with no problems. We were there for 2 weeks and I was in major DT's without my bike in Central Florida in the middle of July.

Oh, and by the way, it's not a matter of time to mod the RV, I wouldn't do that to my RV if I had all the time in the world. It's not designed to haul a 700 lb. bike anywhere inside and I wouldn't presume to know how to modify it to do so. The only option for me is to get it in the back of the truck or not take it.

Put something like this on the back of your trailer.

http://www.truckstuffusa.com/motorcy...vcarriers.html
Unfortunately, my trailer is not one that has a functional rear bumper with a receiver hitch. Mine just has a plastic molded cover back there with "No Step" pressed into it. I wouldn't want the bike where I couldn't see it at all times anyway. Looks like a cool product for a dirt bike - not sure about anything bigger.
That's too bad. If you had some meat under the rear of your trailer to weld/bolt a good class 3, 4 or, 5 hitch for this type of loader it would be perfect. They make models to handle 700 lbs, more if you want to spend the cash.

Best of luck, I'm sure you will find a way and there's always someone at a good park to help with the off loading. A Cold Beer is your buddy.

We own an RV (travel trailer) and the wife is trying to get me
to plan a campingtrip to myrtle beach for at least a week.
I can't see any way I could possibly go to Myrtle for a week
and leave my bike at home in the summer time.
Problem is, I can't ride it because she is too timid
to drive my truck with the 30 foot camper behind it.

********************************

Any thoughts on any of this? Any experiences?
Greg, what about inviting a friend along for the trip??

A friend that can drive the truck.

Just an idea but if you get some plywood and 2x4s make a smaller ramp with a lip on it and extend your current ramp to give you the clearance so you don't hurt the bike and you don't have to sweat it.

Trotter, I'm familiar with the hill technique. I have access to a perfect one at my brother-in-law's house for loading and unloading the bike here at home. My bro-in-law has a homemade dirt bike track behind his house and we use that hill for loading and unloading dirtbikes in the truck all the time. MB is so commercialized that I don't really want to just cruise up on someone's property and use their hill because it looks like a good one. I wouldn't mind paying a fee or whatever if I can just arrange ahead of time a place to safely unload the bike. I'll be working on that option now that I've seen someone with a dyna on a shortbed pickup.

Mudpuddle, inviting a friend sounds great but any of my friends that would go would also want to take their bikes and would probably only want to go for bike week. And, I'm not leaving any of my friends at the trailer with the old lady while I'm out riding if you know what I mean.

Take the tailgate off.
Just my .02 also and leave the tailgaite at home or wrap it in an old comforter and put it next to the bike and plan for a nice vacation.

Let's say you happen to have 1/2 - 3/4 million $$$ lying around (and honestly, who doesn't?), I'd say what you need is an "EX70-HDQ / MAN TGA 6x6", made by "Unicat"; 6-wheel drive, 350hp, 211 gallon fuel tank, 211 gallon water tank, heating/ac ... the works ...

plenty of room for an ATV/Harley/two dirt bikes, and conveniently stored as well ...

nice interior, too ...

That should work just fine ...
