I have a 2006 Super Glide with the stock wheels. The wheels have a lot of black crap/road grime in the pourous part of the spokes that won't come off with regular washing. What can I use to safely remove/clean the wheels up that won't ruin the wheels? It makes the wheels look terrible.
Yellowhawk, 1st off I don't know..
I have the stock wheels and have tried the following:
SimpleGreen w/ High Pressure
SoS pads w/HP
Cometw/HP
etc..etc..etc..
I will be watching this thread to see what comes up.
I have toyed with the idea of having them painted/coated black..?!?!?
+1 on the Mothers with a boatload of clean rags and 3 pair of knuckles. It worked perfectly on my VTX Alloys but you're gonna find it why they call it Mothers!!! It's a Mother...
I have mags on my 05 and to get the black brake dust/soot collected on the wheels off, I used Brake cleaner. I squirt on a rag then rub and it works great. I put on rag first so overspray does not get on any other surface or near the bearings. My wheels look showroom new. I used mothers polish on the finished, polished part of the wheel. That area looks chrome!
Only aply to cool wheels and of course rinse and wash after use to get off any residue after application.
I'm starting to have issues with brake dust on my spokes and posted a similar thread not long ago. Since then I found several wheel cleaners that look promising. One is made by Meguiars and it sprays on but has a clinging and foaming agent in it. It says it's safe for most any kind of wheel and is specifically formulated to remove brake dust among other things. I haven't purchased it but I plan on trying it if it ever gets warm enough to wash the scoot without turning it into a bike-sicle.
yes i have the spokes and after cleaning agian the other day my hands are sore from trying like hell to scrub all the crap off each spoke. SUCK but dam when they get clean they look sweet.

Yep, they look too good clean to leave them dirty. However, there are a lot of "dirty jobs" I'd rather do than clean those spokes one by one. I'm hoping one of the cleaners available will help. I was hoping to find something that sprays on in gel form so it would have time to stick and clean before rinsing off. The closest I've found are a couple of products that spray on and foam up. We'll see if they really work.
