New to this forum, but I have to say that this forum is incredible compared to the others that I USED to frequent alot!! I have learned alot in the past week or so from this forum!
Anyway, my question is....I have an '07 Street Bob. I have installed the Ness Big Sucker Stage 1, I have the v&h Slip on's, and I installed the V&H Fuelpak. The Big Sucker and the Fuelpak are new additions (over the past 2 months) and aside from starting it up a couple of times, I have not got to try it out yet due to the frickin' snow, ice and cold! Regardless after reading quite a few posts here, I decided to check my spark plugs (mainly cause I was bored and wanted to tinker around) expecting them to be kinda lean looking, since they have been coming from Harley this way due to the EPA right? They were BLACK! The dealer installed the slip on's when I took the bike (part of the deal)but nothing else had been touched. So I guess my question is why would it be running rich like this when everyone is complaining that they are running too lean? Would I, or should I, have noticed any performance problems due to this?
Oh, the bike.............. Do you idle a lot?? were you running the engine without going anywhere. May run rich in place, but lean under load............... Others, please chime in. otta check the plugs after you ride (IMO).

Hope this helps, the way I do it run your bike at around 60 or so, pull in the clutch coast some where SAFE and pull over and check your plugs, remember they will be hot as hell, don't forget to use some anti seize on the threads, I live right off a freeway so for me it's no problem, maybe someone out there has an easier idea?, good luck
Thanks Doug, and yea, the couple times I have started it I let it sit and idle, as I was checking my fuelpak adjustments...due to this d&%# midwest winter, I cant take it out for a spin yet....with letting it sit and idle, and with the Stabil (forgot to mention that!) could that be producing the black plugs?[sm=confused06.gif]

Yes, especially during idle............. Hopefully,Trotter will have somethin to say about this.
I think paulies 07's way is probably most accurate, but hotAs he said, if you do it hot, make sure you have antisieze on the plugs, otherwise you need to remove them in a cold engine.
You can't tell if a bike is running rich or not by letting it sit in a garage and idle. It's not at operating temp, and it's not a true indication of the bike's a/f mixture. It should be running richer at that point if it's just at start up.
The truth in how it'll run is after it's completely warmed up and on the road. If it's lean, THAT'S when drivability issues will arise.
