Default wide glide tach

I am looking to put a tach on my 07 wide glide.
what are the pros and cons of diffrent tachs, which do you like?
Any Wide Glide Tach pics?

http://www.harley-davidson.com/brows..._US&page=1

there is the HD replace the speedo with a tach speedo combo. $450 to $500.

or

HD on the bar riser mount
mount $65
tach $125 to $190
housing $20 or $50

or what other options are out there?

My dealer is having a 20% off everything sale now, so if I go HD drop off 20%.

Hi Mick,
As you say, there are lots about.
i've had two types, the first being an H-D riser mounted one and the second being the H-D Speedo/Tach Combo

I have differing opinions on both. Riser mounted sticks up a bit and kinda ruins the clean lines over the bars but is fantastic to view - right in front of your face!!
Dash mounted Combo looks far better (IMO) but ain't so easy to see, obviously! - specially in a hurry!!

I think it's personal, but with both types comes fors and againsts.

They do a small 11/2" square one (not HD) which sticks to your brake master cylinder and has a red digital readout!!
I saw it somewhere on this forum - it's got a 'you tube' video of it in operation - I can't find it anymore, I'm sure someone on this forum will know where it was and post it to you.

Theres also DAkota Digital, they do some wicked stuff - high price but very nice!

Hope this helps??!!

Ian

Just looked at Dakota Digital.
I don't like Digital for a tach. It makes me think. I must look at the number and process it. with an analog gage I can quickly look at the swing needle and tell the RPM.
My preference, even though digital is still cool

I havea Harleyanalogueon my 06 street bob. It mounts on the handle bar clamp and is easy to read. You have to by the tach, mount, and the wiring harness. The new dynas take the signal from the crankshaft sensor which makes it super accurate. No pics now, my bike is being moded.

I totally agree Mick with the digital/analogue thing, I feel the same about watches
It's just easier with a needle ain't it??
Keep me posted as to what you decide on!

Ian I am leaning on the bar mount, mostly for price. looks like bar mount would be around $250
and tach with speedo double that at $500.even tho it looks better.
I am still looking, looking, looking.

I went through the same quandary when I installed a tach on my Wide glide. The bar mount mini tach does kind of disagree with the lines of the bike, but it puts the tach in much more useable position. I now find my self riding more by tach than by speedometer, since I can see the tach and keep my eyes on the roadway at the same time. I like to keep tabs on what the engine is doing and the tach is more precise than guessing the rpm by ear.
I also considered the combo dash mount but the price kind of drove me to the bar mount mini, after living with the bar mount for awhile I like it better because of the more useable mounting location.( Function over form)

Good luck with it,
Arcane

i went with the riser mounted HD tach on my WG. It is easy to read, and doesn't take your eyes off the road like the speedo does.

I have on my WG a riser billet mount similar to gman's response. It works great and I rarely use the speedo. Easy to glance at the tach.
