Default Started some modifications/Pics!

It's about 40 something here today, little windy...but not bad enough to keep me off the bike. I had ordered some parts last week to finish one small project I started, those parts came in yesterday so...decided to take today off. When I paid for my parts last week I had 1497 points on my dealer's preferred customer card (1500 I get a $125 gift card). So today, I went back and got the other 3 points I needed and spent about 2 hours at my dealer (45 minutes was spent with a co-worker and trying to get him a bike lol) trying to figure out what I wanted to spend the $125 on.

Long story short I decided to order a V-rod front brake caliper for my Dyna (dealer price was $172.99 - Part# 44732-06A). I thought that was a worthy investment considering it only took $60 out of my pocket after taxes. I ordered a black one and it should be in next week and I have to order my braided brake lines as well. Pictures of this project will come shortly

The parts I ordered last week were the rear turn signal recess covers ($7 a pop [:-]) and picked up a new rear tail light as somebody broke mine and the base plate. I wanted to ride so I had to buy a new tail light and I have yet to decide on a different one as I will be chopping the fender as soon as I find a suitable one. Picture of the bike w/o the rear signals now (excuse the messy bike...its been melting/snowing/melting/snowing here for a while and hard to keep clean);

My next project was to make a side mount for the license plate. I wasn't really big on having a side mount at first, but I was bored and had some metal laying around (specifically my stock license plate mount lol). I took the mount apart and used the main portion of which the plate originally mounted to and made a few bends to it (still need to flatten it out more). I bolted it up to the rear upper belt guard mount and it fit perfectly. I added a license plate trim to stiffen up the plate more, and it is actually pretty sturdy. I will be getting a set of the Kuryakkyn license plate bolt lights to illuminate to plate also.

Side shot of the mount;

From the rear;

The next thing I am taking on will be switching my outer primary cover to the wrinkle black one. I had been watching Ebay for a while to get one cheap and I finally found one the other day that my dealer had listed in the online ebay store. I just won that item today and hopefully I can just go pick the thing up and get it put on. Another bonus was thanks to the folks here, I still have the gaskets from my forward controls kit since I never did the installation "by the book." The best part, check out the price I paid for the cover; Ebay Link

I have had a great day so far, just wish I hadn't run out of things to do so fast lol.

Man, $5.50?!?!?!? I'd say that has to be the 'steal' of the day!! With forwards, you'll probably add your own scratches to the bottom of the cover, anyways. You appear to beone smart shopper.

I didn't know a V-Rod Caliper would fit. Is that a cosmetic or safety enhancement?

Yea no kidding. I found one about a month ago that starting bid for me was about $10, I went all the way up to $30 and lost the auction at the last 10 seconds, I figured the same would have happened to me with this auction, but I really lucked out!

Truth be told I didn't either until I started reading here. If you search just the Dyna boards for "V-Rod brake caliper" it will bring up a few posts where they discuss the upgrade. The caliper which comes stock on the V-rod is a Brembo 6 piston. The stock one on the Dyna is just a HD 4-piston. If you are not familiar with Brembo, they make some of the best brake systems on the market, plus adding 2 more pistons to the caliper only means better braking performance.

*EDIT - Found link to the guy who did the upgrade to his Super Glide; LINK

The Brembo from the v-rod is a 4 piston caliper. Also, when installed on the dyna the pads do NOT have full contact with the rotor. It works though. Others claim a perfect fit, but I didn't find such. You also need a shorter caliper bolt for one of the mounts. Use a v-rod bolt. Good luck and nice mods.

If your gonna do the outer in black try to snap upthe inner while your at it. I did my outer first and it looked good, but once you get the inner done it looks so much better IMHO.

Damn, I was under the impression it was a 6 piston caliper [&o]. Oh well...it was still only a $60 purchase for me lol.

Yea that is what my plan is. I have been watching Ebay for both the inner and outer primary covers for a while. Found a few outer covers, but even fewer of the inners. I picked up the primary cover today and my salesman at the dealer thought I was filling him full of crap when I told him how much i paid for it, then he saw the receipt lol. Got a couple photos of it, the "damage" is minimal at best if anything. The scratches are very minor and there is absolutely nothing else wrong with this thing, so I really stole this one ;

This one is of the scratchs near the bottom of the derby cover area. Looks like the bike this was on just got tipped over or something;

I also modified my brake and clutch levers today, they turned out pretty good I thought. I went over the levers with a sponge wheel on my dremel to give them that brushed look;

I have noticed it is tougher to come across the inners. I got lucky and a member here was selling his after getting a chrome one. Even he never thought he would find a taker for it. It's one of those parts that get switched out and thrown in the junk pile for most people since the demand isn't very high for them.
