does Harley have floorboards for midmounts onlate model Dynas or floorboards their highway pegs?????
anybody know...anybody....anybody....Beuller....Beuller
They stopped making boards/controls for Dynas after '05 (stopped offering the police model). The dealer told me even the parts for my '05are now obsolete. Used sets are around, but they tend to be pricey. If you have a 2006 or newer, I'd say your best bet is to go with something like lolife has on his with the forwards.
I am currently designing an interface plate that will allow me to mount softail floorboards to my dyna. There is another guy on here who has already done it using Cycle Visions 2" extensions and drilled them to fit on the forward mounts.
I have found this setup to be really comfortable. Got some mini-boards, but the shift peg needs to be modified to work. No problem with the brake side. Will be selling the boardsin the classifieds soon.
the dyna defender floorboards are still available from harley davidson. the complete dyna floorboard kit is obsolete (both the chromed and non-chromed versions) but the individual parts are still available if you order them.obsolete means they are not available from or through any harley dealership. the individual parts are not obsolete however, and any harley dealership can order them from the factory if they know the numbers and actually take the time to order them. i know because i purchased them from chicagoharley a couple of months ago. every part is still available but they will cost around 725 for all the parts if you buy the bolts, washers, etc in addition to the major componenets. the dyna defender bikes were discontinued in 04 or 05 but there are legal requirements to provide parts for discontinued models of cars and bikes for something like 10-15 years after the car / bike is discontinued, so they will be available for a while. that is what my dealer told me about part availability - many dealers just pull up the numbers on a computer and go no further. they won't breakdown a kit for other numbers and availabilityunless they are willing to go the extra mile for service. if you can get the numbers of the individual parts you desire, you will find the dealer can get them. there are kits still found on ebay and occasionally on some of the forums. i bought one a couple of months ago after buying the parts for my wife's fxdl - saw it available for a good price and bought it. i currently have a forum member wanting to buy it if it will match his year model.
if the frames have changed, the kits may not fit the newer dynas. the main points of attachment are where the mid control and forward control brackets bolt to the frame. if they are the same distance apart, you can bolt the floorboards simply in place. the brake should match easily with a correct brake rod length. the only major problem would be the shifter peg bracket- it bolts to the front two bolts on the primary and i am not sure if the primary bolt pattern and placement is the same on the newer bikes. i am not sure about the 08 bikes, but the 07 bike measurements seem to be the same, just need to see the primary bolts pattern for fitting the shifter pedal.
if you have someone who has access to the older dyna police catalogs, you can get a breakdown of the kit and get the individual parts list. i had a forum member email a complete copy of the mounting instructions and parts list to me - he had put a kit on his bike by also ordering the parts. if you call your dealership, they will tell you the kits are obsolete and they are, but they are pulling up the kit numbers on their computers and not the part numbers individually. all the parts are still available, it may take 2-3 weeks to get them shipped from the harley warehouse since they will not be at the dealers anywhere. one component was on factory backorder when i ordered the parts - it was scheduled for release from the factory in about 3-4 weeks but took almost 6 weeks for me to get. that would be the only reason for a long delay, but they are required to keep making all the parts for now.
but the individual parts are still available if you order them.
I've heard that before but didn't know if it was true. I'm glad to hear it in case I ever need replacement parts. I was shocked to learn that parts for a bike less than three years old were obsolete, but I guess it was just the kit as a whole. I've gotten several e-mails asking me about my boards, so I'll pass that info. along in the future.
thats bueller... bueller... bueller....
have you got a chance to try out the heel rest kits available? only a tad over 100 bucks plus 30 for some shift pegs to be used in the position of the foot pegs for the heel rest.
The only part that will not bolt right on is the shifter bracket (APPLIES TO 06 AND LATER DYNA MODELS). All other parts bolt right up. The shifter bracket bolts to the engine housing and the new engine has the bolt hole locations in a different place. So the shifter bracket either has to be remade, modified or modify the existing shifter to work.
