its pretty easy to install your self by cutting the shift shaft but the oem shifter arm on the trans is too short. this will cause the shift ratio to be off. it will be hard to find neutral.
Hmmmmm - I know of lots of folks that have gone the route of sawing off the original shift shaft - this is the first I've heard of neutral being hard to find after doing this. I just installed mine a few weeks ago in this manner, but haven't had a chance to ride it yet due to it still being winter, here.
Those that have gone the shift-shaft-sawingroute - have you experienced this?
Nope.......I haven't had that problem. You might notice that you don't have to move your foot as much to shift or go in to neutral.

WS6,
If I am understanding you correctly, you're saying that the '05 kit will fit an '06 and later.
You just need a longer linkage rod.
Yes?
Where did you get the longer rod?
TIA,
Del
Edited to add another question,
Did you have to remove your exhaust to remove the old brake lever?
Yes, the 05 kit works, you just need a longer shift rod. It's a good time to get a custom one with the better heim joints, as opposed to using the dull cadmium plated one that comes in the 05 and earlier and the 06 and later kits that have the weaker joints.
I changed mine out myself also but have not delt with the mid shaft as of yet. Just safty wired it to a bolt. 1700 miles and no problems. I have delt with the neutral problem though. Its a little tricky to find but not a major problem.
it is a little more comlicated on the '08 ( i did mine). you actually need to remove primary cover and clutch. on earlier models i believe it was a little easier. still not too bad though i would recommend a shop manual.

Hey Jim, just curious. What about the 08 made the install different than the 06 or 07?
Newbie self install went great on my 08 street bob
Hey just wanted to say thanks for the great info! I have a 2008 street bob I bought the older kit (93-2005) and the replacement rod for the 2008 model and I installed it no trouble in about 2hrs. Not having to remove the primary makes this a totally easy and satisfying do-it-yourself job.
I didn't saw off the old lever rather I followed the advice of a few posters to just push it in and wedge the lever behind a bolt behind the primary. The old lever end is flush with the primary case and it looks fine (plus I can revert to the old setup if need be).
I played around with the clutch lever until I had it just the way I like it. There shouldn't be any issue with shifting problems the old lever is not attached to anything. I did notice there is a shorter throw in the shifting but I like it!

Thanks again.
That what I did with my lever back in '06. Stayed there untill my first Inner Primary Bearing went out. Dealer pulled it then when they were inside there. N/C
Just a note to an earlier post, I found a forward kit off of an '03 LowRider, Great shape, dealers said now way it would work. I got parts list, only differances were longer shifter rod(as mention earlier) and a plug for the outer primary cover.. Peg mounts a little differant but all in all the same kit..
Save a couple hundred$ and still going strong.
