This is Great! I have a 2005 XL 21" wheel. I can use the spokes and rim and use my hub. Did you just guess or did you have some instruction on the lacing?
The service manual explains how to lace wheel. Their explanation was confusing to me. I made three attempts to lace the wheel before I finally got it right.
I found a couple places on the web which talked about wheel lacing, but I feel the service manual's information was best. Different types of hubs and rims require different lacing techniques. The manual's steps for lacing a 19" wheel are what you need.
Man I'm glad you told me that. I was checking out the service manual last night. I wondered which one I was suppose to use. The 19 or the 21. Well I took the stock XL 21" apart last night. Tomorrow evening I'll take the wheel off my bob and have the tire taken off so I can start disassembling it. I'll post before and afters when complete. Thanks again. Huge help for sure!
the 19 inch will hold the road better, in theory because of its size and width....but the 21 holds the road just as good IMHO.... no noticeable difference...in fact, it feels more nimble- might not be such a great thing, but time will tell.....that said, next winter mods involve a 21 X 3.00 black landmark front rim with a 120 tire on it.... in the meantime, i'm going to do some research and see if a spoked 18 X 5.5 will work on the back
From a guy who's bike has a 21", stick with what you have !! The 21" takes a little more effort to get it through the curves, an the 2" width doesn't like grass, gravel or any surface that moves but will grab onto any raised portion of the roadway, immediately and often !!!!!!!!!
I put a wide front end on my bob with a 21" wheel. As to handling, mine handles great, no problems at all. A bit smoother ride also. I haven't noticed the groove catching on roads. Very nimble and quick.Everyone has different likes.
