I have had mine off three or four times and have never noticed the notch. This made me revert to the manual. The manual does not say anything about a notch on the spacers nor does it say anything about making sure you install the spacers any certain way.
I noticed the little V notch too on both the front and rear wheel axles.

Yep, looks like a notch on both that are on the stupid end (The end without the threads).
I put em back on asI took em off, but not sure if they needed to face any certain direction. Can't see why they would.
