Bought an OEM Fatboy Fender that matches my stock paint. I found out that it is cheaper to buy one than have one painted to match the dual paint and pinstripe. Itwas almost a bolt on with exception of the 1/4" fender spacer that was needed. The axel spacers were bolt on.
Project done. Went for a 3.5 rim size with metzeler 120/70/21.Also replaced front fender. So far so good with no issues. Here is a pic to share.Ride safe.
Do you have any side view pics? That skinny tire has always bugged me about the WGs. That and the tubeless tires.
Was the new fender necessary to fit the tire?
I'll try to take some side view pictures this weekend. If you will go with 120/70/21 tire, you will need a 3.0 to 3.5 rim size. A wider fender is needed with this modification fitment.
The trade off is the manueverabilty. The narrow glide has a better edge but the wider tire have better stability and traction IMHO.It is a matter of preference with the rider.
A lot of people feel safer with a wider tire in the front because of grooves and gaps in the road. I grabs sometimes, but when there is water on the road the narrower tire cuts right through it where a wider tire would be more likely to hydroplane.
My next project, would be the rear. There are a lot of options. Drdave, do you have some pics for your rear tire set up? I would like to do the same without any modifications. I am surprised that you were able to fit a setup of 18x5.5 with 170 tire with no modifications. I was told that you can only put a 4.25 max rim size. But I am not surprised since I was told that a front fatboy fender won't fit either, but it did. My other option would be to just put the 160 tire on the stock rim or a set up with a solid wheel(fatboy, duece).
