Keep us posted on how this turns out.
I like the idea of moving the gauge anyway.
I went the route of punching the extra hole in the console, and even though it looks alright and functional, I'm not completely happy with it.
Youre idea sounds a lot better than my lame brained hatchet job.
If you get a chance, post some pics of yours. I'd like to see it.
Gotta say it's gonna look real nice when finished. It looks like it belongs there, unlike the add-ons that end up below the fuel gauge, they look a little bit out of place to me. Looking forward to your how to on this when it's all said and done.
John, That looks grand........... Makes me wish I had done it that way in the first place. Man, now I am gonna have to buy a chrome console and follow through on your idea.
That'll look great with the Vrod cluster, on mine.
I really think using the fuel light without the gauge will work just fine.
I have managed to run out of gas with a working, accuratefuel gauge, but then I ain't the brightest bulb in the socket.
After getting the trim around the switch and seeing it sitting in the console, I started getting excited about this mod. I will take pics of the mounting when the time comes, probably this weekend.
Thanks for the feedback and suggestions. And again to Doug, thank you for working through the fuel light issues.
RE: FXDI Ignition Switch Idea (Pre-install pics added)
Cool idea. I am thinking about one of those proximity switches with a transponder that you have in your pocket or on your belt and just a "start" button recessed into the tank dashboard. The bike can only be started if your transponder "fob" is within 3 feet of the switch. I'm thinking of finding a wrecked Lexus and pirating the ignition system out of there.
Mud. I wish I could say they were taken by a sub-standard cell phone camera. The camera used works fine. The two legged tripod holding the camera suffers from extensive damage to his central nervous system. The only cure is to take a couple drinks before I press the shutter button.
I will get more pictures as you've requested in the morning. I will try to make these better. Just hope the wife will buy the whole thing aboutwhiskey at 9:00 in the morning for the sake of quality photography
