JUST BOUGHT MY FIRST BIKE..IT'S A 1992 FXLR DYNA CUSTOM LOW RIDER...THE PROBLEM I'M HAVING IS THAT I HAVE TO JUMP START IT SOMETIMES......I JUST PUT A NEW BATTERY IN IT....BUT SOMETIMES THE WHEN I GO TO START IT THE SILINOID JUST CLICKS AND BARELY STARTS TO TURN OVER......i HAVE TO JUMP IT...I THOUGHT IT WAS THE SILINOID OR MAYBE THE STARTER...WHEN I JUMP IT IT RUNS FINE...AS LONG AS I START IT WITHIN A FEW IN MINUTES OF SHUTTING IT OFF..OVER NIGHT I HAVE TO JUMP START IT THE NEXT MORNING...ANY IDEAS?
Make sure all of the connections are CLEAN and tight on the battery, and on the starter.
Next, the "new" battery is the right size and amp. for a Harley?
Last but not least, is there a "drain" on the battery when the key is off. there shouldn't be. There are two ways to check this. One way is to dis-connect the battery over night and then connect it just before you try to start it.
The second way to check a draw on a battery is to disconnect one of the battery cables and connect a 12 volt test light in series with the cable and battery. If there is a draw, the light will light. This means something is onor stuck-on that shouldn't be.
If I can explain it better, let me know and I'll go into more detail.
THANKS FOR THE HELP.. I WILL GET A TEST LIGHT TODAY AND TEST THE POSITIVE CABLE TO SEE IF THERE IS ANY KIND OF DRAWW....IT'S RUNNING FINE NOW AND STARTED UP FINE THIS MORNING......YES THE BATTERY IS A HARLEY BATTER AND THE CONNECTIONS ARE GOOD.....I'LL LET YOU YOU KNOW THE RESULTS....ANY OTHER ADVICE WOULD BE APPRECIATED....THANKS
Congrats and Welcome
+1 on what Clutch said about the terminals. Use a socket to tighten them down and not a Phillips screwdriver. My St. Bob was doing that and the (-) terminal was screwdriver tight, socket tight cured it.

wrong or bad battery, or you have something draining it down overnight. could be corrosion somewhere (at a connection or plug), not necessarily at the battery.
