Is it just me or are the 04-05 dynas the bastard children of the group. Don't get me wrong I love my superglide but all the accessories out there seem to fit from 93-06 or 06 up. would like know if the seats will actually interchange w/other years?Would also like to put maybe a street bob or low rider gas tank on to get rid of the handle bar mounted speedo. Any info would be appreciated.
yes - 04-05 are the bastards.
in 04 hd introduced FI to the dyna - prompting a tank change, and therefore - a seat change as well.
then in 06 they went and redisigned the entire bike -
so - you are stuck. I think some minor mods will make newer seats fit - not sure about older?
if you want to get rid of the speedo - then buy a 04-05 wide glide paintset for $500+
then buy a wg speedo.
then buy a wg dash.
then buy all of the other doo dads.
you'll be out around $1000 in the end, and that's if you don't repaint - all to change the speedo.
If you change all tins - then add another $300 to deal with the rear light on the wg bob fender.
I'm not trying to be sarcastic here - just telling it like it is. I've thought of every route imaginable - and I'm just going to be happy with my bar mounted speedo.
with the exception of seats, I don't know of many fitment issues, exhausts for example will typically fit 91-05.
maybe it's just me but I thought the dynas made between 1999 and 2005 were basic clones of each other. when the fi came out that changed tanks and seats. one i noticed is a chrome regulator cover for my 05 is hard to find. i just haven't seen any problems. the 06's and up went thru a big frame modification not to mention tranny and engine mods. one example is the rear footpegs- on the 05 they are on the frame and on 06's they mounted to the swingarm.
