I like that.Unique is a good perspeective. Like I said, I love the bike but it would be great to have some kind of parts interchange like I used to have for cars when I ran a salvage yard, but then again I guess that's what the forums are for.
The '06 is bastard child as well, at least concerning the engine & transmision. It was only made 1 year with the 88 & 6 speed. Everytime I look through the catalogs there's always this caveat - "everything except '06 Dyna's". Guess that's what keeps the Dynas unique - they're a test bed for all the other models.
Never had a problem getting parts for my '04 WG, but I've only changed seat and exhaust. Heck, my exhaust I bought off a member here and it came from a (Superglide, Lowrider?...other Dyna) - fits fine. I love my baby regardless of her illegitimacy
Newer Dyna add on parts in general seem to be scarce. At the local dealer all the other models have a BIG section for other models (even the Sportster section is bigger). The Dyna's section is small in comparison.
If you are looking to change the speedo position start looking on Ebay for the best deals. The cheapest option is to use a Sportster Custom setup to mount your speedo under your bars like I did. It is a straight parts swap an you can do it in an afternoon. The 03 and older mount is different than the 04 and up so you will have to compare them to see the look you are going for.
ORIGINAL: 1tank
Is it just me or are the 04-05 dynas the bastard children of the group. Don't get me wrong I love my superglide but all the accessories out there seem to fit from 93-06 or 06 up. would like know if the seats will actually interchange w/other years?Would also like to put maybe a street bob or low rider gas tank on to get rid of the handle bar mounted speedo. Any info would be appreciated.
I'm tired of the speedo too, so today I ordered a new top handlebar clamp and am doing away with the speedo and idiot lights all together. I figured I can find neutral all by myself(first bike that had that feature) it has a fuel gauge, I do 2 oil changes a year so no need to track mileage, Dave...
The big Dyna changes were made in 2006. New frame, new front fork, new tank, different tires, 6 speed. I have never had a problem getting anything for mine. My rear roadwinder wheel has the 05 deuce part number and the 06 dyna part number stamped on it. If you ride a 2005 lowrider and then get on a 2006 you will notice the difference in handling immediately. I really like this bike.
