can i use shocks from a sporty on my 05 fxdci thanks in advance. i want to lower it an inch and cant afford progressives but saw some 11 .5 in. for a sporty. just the size i want.
spring rate is definitely different (weight of bike). if you set the pre-tension high though it might work depending on how hard you ride. i would worry about potholes, speedbumps, etc. bottoming out will wreck the wiring to tail and signal lights.
bikerdog134 I just did it over a few weeks. The Sportster shocks bottomed out I hope I can find the photos to post. The ones that are chrome covers (custom I did) are the sportster shocks. The spring & valve rate rate are way to soft. The exposed spring is the Dyna shock.
i tryed a set of sporty shocks from ebay once , they where nice shocks but they bottomed out every time i hit a pump..i found a set of lowrider shock (12") on ebay and they lowered the bike about an 1" and i,ve never bottomed out even when 2 up riding.. good luck and ride safe
thanks for the feedback. i belive my stock shocks are 12.5 inches. i would like to drop it an inch. i think street bobs are 11.5. maybe i could find some take-offs
Street Bob factory shocks are 12". The lowest you can go are 11" aftermarket shocks which will give you that awesome "slammed" look.
After trying different shocks on my Street Bob I settled on 11.5" Progressive 440s. These still give you a lowered look but without sacrificing too much in rider comfort.
