Man, thanks to all you guys for the good pros and cons. I think ya'll have made up my mind for me. Being fast and hot-rodding is not an issue with me but comfort is. Now to choose between the Superglide and the Superglide Custom. Anyway, thanks toeverybody so much.

If you ever plan on getting extra chrome, then do yourself a favor and get the Super Glide Custom.
You will save a lot of chrome cash. The chrome offered on the custom for the money is a steal in my opinioin.
Also note the location of the speedometer, type of rims and console differences on the Super Glide Custom vs the Super Glide.
Ilike the Chrome so I chose the Custom.
Either bike is awesome.

I think that the FXDC is the better deal, if you like all the chrome.
I didn't want the chrome, wanted rear passenger boards not the pegs and planned to change the seat anyway so I went with the standard.
Yeah, it's really about the chrome engine, everything else is secondary... if you like it, it more than pays for itself in the difference in cost... if not, it's a toss-up, but price the difference in mods you'd want.
I personally prefer the Low Rider... when you are talking these prices, I think it's worth getting the one you really want, and the black/chrome engine IMHO looks better than blond.
And why not? It's faster, lighter, and handles better for a slightly lower price tag. (Using the 1200 custom as a reference)
Well, I disagree with some of that statement. My 07 Street Bob (stock) is faster than my buddies stage 1 1200 custom....and I even weigh ~60 lbs more than him.
Nothing wrong with a Sportie. They're nice looking bikes and the cheapest of the bunch, but I say get a Dyna! (for reasons already mentioned)
Your buddies Sportster must be junk, I'm so sure my 1200c is faster than your stock Street Bob I'd race you for pink slips. All said and done I'd get the Dyna, not for speed but for comfort and size.
Welcome and I am going to echo what many of the other guys have said.
Personally, I would go for the Dyna. Talking to many a people who get a sportster as their first bike realize that they want "more" harley once they get to riding. And after talking with a buddy of mine who works at a dealership, he says that 40% of people who get a sportster trade it in within a year or so on a bigger bike.
I also agree with ZeroFiveHour, and go for the custom. You get a lot for the extra money. And it is an awesome looking bike.
Also, an FYI, be cautioned. Once you start adding custom things to your bike, you get deeper and deeper in it. It's almost like a drug, and it's addicting.
It depends on how you ride and what you can afford comfortably. I have a Dyna but the way I ride I'd have been just as happy or happier with a Sportster 1200R.I mostly ride to work and back,I don't tour, I ride twisty back roads on the weekends, and I rarely ride longer than an hour at a time.If I had a Sportster it would probably end up looking very much like my Dyna it just would have cost me a less to get there.I'm 5'9" the Dyna fits me well but so does the 1200R, I like the Nightster but it feels a little cramped.
I think allot of people would be happier on a Sporty given all the $$$ they spend making their Dynas just a little faster...
But allot of people have size issues and need as many inches as they can get between their legs to make them feel good.
I think the Dynas perfect nitch is to do what a bagger does, but with less and faster. It's big enough to tour if you can travel light. But more often than not, the role it fills is that of bar-hopper, daily commuter. Whatever, no problem with that, but why not get a sporty and get better performance if that's all you do?
When I had my FXDL I was commuting to work 130 miles a day, between Septermber and the end of November I put 5k miles on it. It was the perfect profile for what I was doing, fast highway riding, and the occasional tour.
Just don't cheat yourself out of a sportier ride because you think you need thos cubic inches...
I bought my first Harley aDyna (fatbob) because I wanted the extra power and the 6 speed tranny and the big tank. Also I didn'twant the integrated power plant like some other bikes I have owned. Wanted my engine and transmission asseparate components.
I used to think that the Sportster was what I was going to end up with. Ispent part of a summer test riding and renting different bikes to see what would fit my riding style. I found the Sportster to be a pain in my backside after about an hour or so of riding. I liked the handling and the speed, but I had owned enough butt burners in the past. I also road some Softtails and baggers. I saved the Dynas for last. I am glad I did. I found the comfort level and ride that I wanted with the Superglide. Last year I did about 8000 miles on it just going to work and doing day rides. That was from May to October. So, to add to what everyone else has said.....go ride them. The cost for rental is nothing compared to getting a seat of the pants experience. Only you can tell what will fit your body and your riding style. Let us know what you decide.
If you're on a Volusia, a Sporty will feel awfully small to you. Spend the extra $ on the Dyna, you won't be disappointed. Many good points listed above.
I got my SuperGlide Custom three days ago and it's been really great! I'm so glad I didn't get the Sporty I was looking at. The FXDC is plenty fast and very comfy for what it is.
