Went out this moring and the key will not turn to ignition. It is in the off position now. I never have locked it or anything always just go to the off position and pull the key(falls out if I don't pull it). The key pushes ina bit but I'm not sure if it is going in as far as normal. I tried both of my keys and no dice! What is the fix here? Soem kind of lubercation? Have the service manual and owners manual so I will check there later btu thought that might be a simple fix that someone knows about. Put on big sucker and PCIII last night but had to leaveso I never got to ride now I can'[:@]
My co-worker bought one of those cool "Skull" keys and a tiny bit broke off and stayed in the lock. He had to have the bike towed home, and used the home vacumn cleaner to suck it out. I would check your keys, and then I would look into the lock barrel, maybe a a little piece of debris fell in their (I doubt it but it won't hurt to check) and a drop of WD-40 might loosen up sticky tumblers if thats the issue.
Had the same problem with mine from day one. I took it back to the dealer and they put some dry graphite into the lock and it has never given me another problem. I would check my keys to make sure all the pieces were there. Just a extra measure that would only take a few minutes and bring piece of mind.
good luck.
I had that problem the other day. It was real humid here lately and even though my bike is garage kept, the switch got some moisture in it and I had left the key in the switch. I had to spray some graphite in the switch and polished up the end of the key with my dremel and it now actually works better than before.
Move the switch before you end up stranded somewhere like I did.
Pulled into a little roadhouse to grab a bite to eat and wait out a rainshower. Went back out after a couple hours and everyones bike fired but mine. Bastards all rode off and didnt even pay attention to me waving and yelling (some friends). Just then a big burly biker guy comes rolling out with a pair of pliers in hand. So I'm thinking to myself, "MF'er when I get those pliers in my hand you ARE gonna turn or I'll tear you completely outta the frame." With the grace of God,much coersion from said pair of pliers, and quite a few expletives thrown in for good measure it finally turned. My buds actually did come back after realizing I wasn't with them any longer, guess they're not so bad anyway.
