Thanks for all the compliments guys. I was real happy when I picked it up and saw that the rockers really tied everything else together just like I saw it in my head. I know I said this was my last "major" winter mod. We're never eally done though right?
Gonna round things out with a few more small items before summer like possibly adding black fork boots and wrapping the tubes between the trees to match. Gonna leave the sliders as is, to keep with my theme of breaking the colors up to add more emphasis to each area of the bike. Gonna get my front signals powdercoated to match the rears after I see if I like the end result of the first two things.
I'm debating on black exhaust but I refuse to pay extra money for black pipes versus chrome and I am thinking of just pulling my sheilds off and hitting them with some high temp paint. Not like I can't just get new sheilds if I screw that up right? [8D]
The other side of that coin is that I am worried if the black pipes will dominate the theme to much. Wife already told me not to do it cause it will take away from the nice mix I have going now.
I'd really like to get some opinions on the pipe issue if you could offer yours.
Yeah Ed, those are your old shocks. Wasn't sure I was going to like the lower stance but I really dig the feel of the bike after it dropped down a little. [sm=smiley20.gif]
Compgeek, I had them powdercoated by Metal_Mike here on the forums. He did a great job and you would think they came outta the factory that way. Hit him up to get yours done too. (Your gonna have to start bird-******* me for the work soon Mike......)
most excellent! just added it to my slide show screen saver.it's lookin like a blue version of mine. again same name and similar tastes. i painted my heat sheilds and really like how they look.
you might show your girl and see what she thinks.

you just confirmed my plans for black rockers next winter and while i have it apart I'm gona powder coat the push rod tubes also.
same here, no moe mods this winter. weather's gettin more better45 this morning so rode to work, 63 after and took the long way home
The pipes look prety nice on your bike Jay. You painted them yourself with rattle can? Give me the low down on the prep you did on them and how you sprayed them. And I totally stole your idea on wrapping the tubes between the trees. I dig how that looks w/ the fork boots.
Oh, and in case anyone is interested in a set of rockersfor powdercoating or what not, I have my old polished covers for sale. Make me an offer.
Jay, if you are leaving the wheels chrome, i would paint the shields black. dont think you would lose the balance of black/chrome since you stillhave some shiny stuff on the engine.
sounds like a crazy theory regarding the wheels but i think i would maintain the balance
Hmmmm........hadn't thought about it along those lines. Showed wife pic of Xchromes bike for comparison, but she still says no on the black pipes. So far she's been a good gauge for me togo by even if she does roll her eyes everytime I talk about my bike.
I wouldlike some black wheels too,but I'm broke as hell and still do love the timeless look of spokes.

just incase she uses her 'womans prerogative'and changes her mind here's how i did it using info i found here on the forum.
1 remove heat shields (didn't have to remove pipes on mine)
2 scuff KROME with 220 (no going back now)
3 spray with Krylon high heat using directions on can (i did 5 coats)
4 ride fast and far to bake on
it has a slight texture so people mistake it for ceramic but if it gets scuffed you don't have to strip and start over just spray another coat.
