I just took a 150 mile round trip to south Miami and back yesterday, and found that I absolutely LOVE to ride at 80 MPH in 6th gear. It just glides like no other! Its so incredibly smooth that it just feels awesome. Now, when I'm not going that fast, my favorite speed to cruise at is 52 MPH to be exact in 4th gear. Just feels good and can ride that all day long.
Now, whats your sweet spot? I'm sure everyone here has there favorite speed to cruise at.
For me, it really depends on the situation. If I'm on country roads, I slow way down for the curves and the scenery. My "speed" sweet spot is about 65 or 70. I really hate going any faster because to me it's a chore and I can't enjoy the ride. But then again, I never have enjoyed speed. To each his/her own!
i'm the same on my 07 'bob.......around 80 in 6th gear......the bike just seems to find it' own way there.....chances are...if i'm on the hwy for a longer run....that' where i wind up....... on a 2 laner......about 45 in 4th or so.....love the low rumble @ the lower end.
If on the open highway 6th gear is made and purrs like a kitten from the low to mid 70's up to low mid 80's. I can put the SG in 6th on the open highway and she seems to level out and be perfect sound and running between 75 and 80.
5th gear has a good run to her at about right at 60.
I just love the back twisty roads at about 50 with no windshield in the summer. Any time I am doing a long ride and highways are needed I pop on the windshield and like it around 60-65.
I avoid highways at all cost. Can't stand them. For me it's all about the back roads and main drags at the beach early morning or early evening. My fav is the main drag at the beach. 2nd or 3rd gear puttin at about 25-30 with some tail on the back with her hands you know where.......That's what I'm talkin about.
Of course the ride out to the beach isn't bad either. Depending on how hot it is I like50 on the back roads.
