Default 11.5 Rotor difference

Hey guys,

What is the difference between a 11.5 one piece rotor and a 11.5 two piece rotor and which do I want?

Thanks,
Guns

OK, the one piece is simply that, one piece of metal. The two piece is a floating rotor. Meaning that the rotor will move laterally to "adjust" for any irregularities or warping. Theory also says that it may run cooler.. Personally, I dont believe its needed. You dont find them on cars, the caliper floats to do the same thing, so, not needed IMO.. Now, if your looking for the cool factor, I like the way a 2pc looks with the chrome or powder coated center section.. I'd just go for the look you like..

2 piece dont warp b/c the friction piece can expand and contract and is not held by the mounting bolts that would restrict such movement.
in my opinion 2 piece are better, but i dont know that you could tell the diff. by riding. and i agree, the do look cool
also, some cars do have 2 pice rotors, specifically the BMW550, 650, M5, and the M6

Had a one piece on my sportster that warped after about 30,000 miles. Rode another 10,000 with that pulsating sensation you get when you apply the brakes. Still stopped good. My St. Bob has the 2 piece and after 30,000 plus miles, not warping. You could probably buy 2 solid for a little more than the cost of one floating. I would opt for the 2 piece, that's my .02.

Just for the record,

your StreetBob has a one piece rotor.

(unless you have changed it out from the OEM equipment)
