Default Fat Bob detachable sideplates question

I just bought the sissy bar and detachable side plates kit (online).

So I come to find that it didn't come with the buttonhead screws to mount the sissybar (although the kits part list lists them). Next, the docking kit it only comes with 2 3/8"-16 x 1-3/4" chrome bolts, even though you need 4 (and, according to one dealer I called, they're a special order item).

Now for my question - mock-mounting one side using the 2 available bolts, it looks as thought the reflectors interfere with the side plates - i.e. the side plates wont mount cause the reflectors are in the way - is this true? Any body else out there with a FB and the detachable sissybar confirm? [sm=confused06.gif]

HopefullyI can pick up the missing hardware from one of my local dealers. Though total for the 6 needed bolts is around $15 out the door -[sm=ummmmokay.gif] - I'd rather not have to wait another week for a few lousy bits.

This being my first HD motorcyle, I'm hoping this is uncommon, that I'm just unlucky, and that I can continue to order stuff and be sure that everything I ordered is supplied in the box.

Cheers,
-Jack

I've seen one of our FBS members (triman, check his signature) with detachables and I'm looking to do the same. They didn't make a post about it but its certainly in the pictures.

Okay - to attach the detachable sideplates w/sissy bar you should have the following pieces:

FXDWG Docking Hardware Kit: (53964-06)
1. Docking point, rear x 2 (53684-96A)
2. Docking point, front x 2 (53697-06
3. Button Head cap screw x 4 (4203)
4. Spacer x 2 (5699)
5. Reflector, red x 2 (59259-90)

Detachable Sideplate Kit #52866-06
1.Sideplate, detachable, right (52869-06)
2.Sideplate, detachable, left (52870-06)
3.Button Head screws x 4 (94592-98)

I can't find the upright (sissy bar) instruction sheet, but, the above info should answer your questions on whether you have all required hardware. Feel free to pm me if you need any more help. I'll keep looking for the sissy bar sheet. Also, if you add the luggage rack, this comes with separate (longer) cap screws to replace the attachment hardware for the sissybar to the sideplates, to account for the added thickness. One other thing, I already had removed my reflectors from the struts, and didn't use the replacement ones that came with the mounting hardware kit, so, to answer your question, you need to remove the OEM reflectors from the struts for proper fitment. If you ordered the referenced kit numbers, you should have received all the necessary hardware. I didn't need any special order hardware.

I think I threw away the sissy bar sheet, but if I remember correctly all necessary attachment hardware should be with above kits. The sissy bar was by itself.

You should be safe in the future with getting all pieces/parts. I haven't run into any problems yet except for a defective luggage rack, which dealer replaced.

Thanks lonewaite - red reflectors were not listed in the parts list - that's okay, I'll just go ahead and remove the strut reflectors - no biggie. I'm going to follow up with the vendor about the missing bolts, but I think I'll also see if I can buy them locally - I really want my wife to be able to ride with me occasionally (she has her own bike), but the stock FXDF seat the way it is, is comfortable for the rider, but not for the passenger - hopefully the backrest will help.

Thanks again for the feedback

I have the detachable hardware and I did not remove the side reflectors at first, it clears them.

I have an old picture, you can see the reflector behind the sideplate. I have since removed them.
