I have a 2007 1200 Customtwo tone black cherry pearl & pewter pearl& wheel option that I purchased new last July for $9,150 plus tax & registration (see pic). I have put3,150 miles on it. The 2008 MSRP is now$10,835 plus freight for the same bike.
What do you think I could get on trade for a Fat Bob at a dealerand what do you think I couldrealistically sell the 1200 forin the open market? I am in theMinneapolis, MN area.
I installed an HD removable back rest and HD removable windshield but would take these off and sell them on Ebay unless they would fit the Fat Bob. Does anybody know if they would fit the Fat Bob?
Don't know how it is there on the east coast but trade ins out here are crap. Would probably get somewhere between 5 and 6 grand based on what's on the bike out here so selling it on your own would produce a better return.
Neither the backrest or windshield would work. Different mounting dimensions and dual front head light.
Hope you get the bike though....it's a really good ride.
I got $9500 for my similiar 07 Custom1200 on an 08 Fat Bob. It had some cosmetic mods. Of course the dealer only had 1 Fat Bob at the time and said they were going out 2K over MSRP. I think I got out of there with 1.5 over MSRP with them giving me 9500. I added SE pipes/ac in the deal. I don't think you are going to be able to go in and come out with a Fat Bob for your trade + $4K. Best of luck with your negotiating.
With that said, the Fat Bob is awesome and feels soooo much better than the Sportster.
I traded my 07 1200Low for a new Fat Bob the first week they were out in Atlanta. My Sportster had 246 miles on the clock. I took it in the shorts pretty good (about $3500 if I remember correctly) but to me it was the wise move to make. I was not really happy with my Sportster, I wanted a Dyna when I bought it but due to an upcoming divorce I was not sure I could make the difference in payment. I could not be happier with my Fat Bob. The lost money only hurts for a little while. I dont really think about that any more.
You guys are either full of crap or they sell them much cheaper than in Ohio. The Fat Bobs around here are 15,500 msrp. Even if you got 9500 for your sportster you are still paying 6000 plus taxes. What gives?
I was saying I lost $3500 over what I paid for the Sportster not what the difference in price was. I got mine for MSRP + shipping, no set up fee, +Tag tax and title
Better off selling your sporty outright. And anyone that ever pays over MSRP is stupid. Why anyone would ever do that is beyond me. kind of like going into the gas station and asking how much when the price is marked outside, then paying whatever they say anyway. Just a dumb move. the MSRP for the Bob is $14795-$15140, you should be looking at that + frieght, do not pay set-up (sucker charge) and see what extras you can squeeze out of them while you're at it.
forget it. Build your sporty the way you want. Led Sled customs will hartail your frame for about 500-600 bones, and you can EASILY make it into a bobber. "Chop what 'cha got"
Go check out Wild Prairie Harley Davidson over in Eden Prairie. They just opened and are really having a big push to sell bikes for the grand opening. They were letting 2008 Street Bobs go for under $13 and that was with factory alarm system.
The guys out in Delano at Crow River Harley are straight up shooters too.
I paid over 9K with the 9500 trade-in. We have 8% sales tax here. throw in another K for the SE exhaust/AC. I did not like my Sportster nearly as much as my non-Harley bikes. I'm riding my FatBob just as much as the others now. Comfy on 500 mi trips, enough power to cruise at 85+ and it just feels solid.
Sell you bike outright and get one!
by the way, when I was complaining about the mark-up on MSRP they told me they could get me into lots of their bikes under MSRP, just not the Bob because of supply/demand.
