I have a set of VH Staggered Shortshots Black ordered but as you all know they are on backorder and who knows for how long. I have had time to re-think things and have decided to go another direction.
I am know thinking about SE slip-ons and SE stage one ac. Anyone else done this with an 06 Street Bob and what are your thoughts on this? Thanks for your help on this.
It sounds like you want a full system. If you just "settle" and get the slip-ons you may be unhappy and replace them later which will end up costing more. If you were considering the SE slip-ons which come in chrome only, why not get the V&H Shortshots in chrome. They should be readilly available and slightly cheaper then the black ones which seem impossible to get right now.

Or.....What he said...

Aw but looks can be deceiving... Its actually not bad... with a stock dipstick. Now with aftermarket stuff it might be a tightsqueeze. Of course the main thing is to let the pipes cool, thats true with anything, but especially with these pipes.
here is a badly cropped pic
i got stage 1, sert, and slip ons (older SEII) they are plenty loud and get great performance out of the bike... I like em! to be honest. i have wrapped my pipes of course but you get the idea... more pics in my gallery... there was a time when pretty much all of us had them... because when we got our bikes in 06 that WAS ALL YOU COULD GET! ha ha ha
I got rid of what my wife refers to as 'the baby pipes' first by putting on a set of Rinehart slip-ons (which now occupy a shelf in the garage); it was cheaper than full pipes and I dug the black tips and deep rumble. I noticed a difference over stock, both in performance and sound. Five or so months later, during my ThunderMax install, in the course of trying to remove the front O2 sensor to put in the wide-band sensor for the AutoTune module, the weld at the bung lifted; damn factory cross-threading. Being a day away from a 1600+ mile trip I needed pipes, and fast. An hour from closing time on a Saturday, I called the local shop (closed Sunday)... they had a chrome Thunderheader and a chrome V&H BSS in stock. After fighting with my wallet, I chose the latter. Again, I noticed a difference both in performance and sound. And while I like the lines of the BSS, I think I actually liked the Rinehart sound a little better... and I'm now considering installing the Big City Thunder Monster baffles and coating the tips black.
Long story, long... if you've got time/patience, pay for it once and spend the rest on something else; because there is always something else.
I have an 06 Super Glide and went the SE2 slip ons/Stage 1 route first. I then went with the V&H BSS/PCIII, and wish I never wasted the $$$ on the first set up. IMO the SE2 slip ons sounded like crap.
