If you're going to do something yourself on your pride and joy, take the time to do it right - get yourself some good, quality wrenches.

I would, however, love to be a bug on the wall and see how many mechanics at the dealerships use one!

A torque wrench and loctite are essential safety tools for properly securing critical fasteners on a motorcycle. In other words there are some fasteners that you definitely don't want coming loose at speed. Small investment in safety and reliability.

Reason #2 for getting you own torque wrench....my butt is in the saddle and I do my critical fasteners every Spring just for peace of mind.

I agree with Critter, only one time of having to drill, retap/Heli-Coil, etc and you'll be kicken yer self in the butt.

And personally, I find both a torque wrench and the lock-tite to be invaluable tools on any work I do on the bike(and sometimes other less important stuff)

if its important to safety or the powertrain, torque it
if its a points cover or something like that, German torque and loctite should suffice

Let me put it this way... I build bottomends for race car motors, hence my handle "Bottomend"...If something calls for a specified torque there is a reason, not withstanding bolt stretch (but that is another subject) Buy GOOD torque wrenches...craftsman are OK but there are better, the most important thing is treat them like a baby, be gentle...and they do need calibration.
