Hi All,Though I have owned a Sportster and currently have a Road King, I just bought my first Dyna, a '96 Lowrider. It was already fixed up the way I wanted with forward controls,a wide-glide front end, 21 inch 80 spoke front wheel, 1.25 drag bars and lowered 2 inchs in the rear (progressives). There are a few things that need fixing and one that has me stumped. The odometer is WAY OFF. My girlfriend drove my Road King this weekend (big mistake, don't know if I will ever be able to get her off it) and her odometer reading was 30 miles...the lowrider only read 2.7! The speedometer and tach seemed about right, just the odometer. Does anybody know what it going on?David
I jusr re-read the OP. I thought it was 27 miles compared to 30 miles.
You said the difference between the two odometers was 30 miles for one and 2.7 for the other?!?!?!
If the differece was that big, you've got some type of sensor/electrical gremlin working on the Dyna.
I WOULD CALL THE GUY U BOUGHT IT FROM AND ASK HIM SOME QUESTIONS TO SEE IF HE KNEW IT WAS OFF OR NOT..CUZ THATS EFFED UP BIG TIME. YOU HAVE NO CLUE HOW MANY MILES IS ACTUALLY ON IT!!!!!
Sorry to say this but the OD may have been rolled back to reduce the mileage on that bike for sales appeal which is very very illegal in most States. If you have any service records from the previous owner call the dealer where he had the work performed and ask them how much mileage they recorded on the bike during service intervals. If not. Just ask him where he purchased the bike or had the bike serviced and tell him you want to get the oil changed then call the dealership with the vin number and compare their records. You can also call the MoCo and do the same OR logon to the MoCo website under the wrenching area. If their records indicate mileage over what is currently registered on the bike have the sale reversed and report the guy to the State.
