Default V&H Short Shots vs Side Shots

I have 2008 Super Glide and want to go to a black exhaust. I have been looking at both the V&H Short Shots and Side Shots. I like the look of the Short Shots but do not know if they would be too loud. The bike is one up only since my wife has her own scooter. Also is there any performance differance between the two due to the lenght and back pressure. Thanks for any advice available.

Don't know much about the short shots, but the side shots have cross over to maximize performance and flow. I love mine. I actually have the quiet baffles with a 5/8: hole drilled into the closed end. Can't beat the deep rumble.

If you're worried about 'loud' you should absolutely avoid the Side Shots.

I have heard from a very reliable and informed source that the Short Shots and the Side Shots were produced by V&H as experiments and to meet a certain market demand. This source says that they put very little R&D into these pipes and that if you want the best V&H pipe, the Pro Pipe is the only way to go. V&H put the proper amount of research into it, and it performs up to the standards of the other best-of-class pipes out there in the world (including the Thunderheader).

This is NOT my opinion. I'm just relaying it.

Hope it helps.

Disagree totally. Even with the "stock" baffles, these are anything but too loud. However, the quiet baffles definitely give a more liveable, deeper tone.

Well here is My bit. This is what I have fouudn form My own experience with V&H pipes.

I had a set chrome short shots on My first dyna. It was a `03 fxdxt with 1550 kit SE cams 42mm flat slide and so on. It was loud but anything over 4k RPM was just noise and no go. Whilst the bike pulled like a train through the gears it just ran out of steam at the top end. I replaced them with a set of balony cut SE11s and the thing would then try and lift the front wheel and went straight off the clock.
Now admitedly these were the earlier ones with the square cut end and had no linkpipe/power chamber like the side shots andbig/log shots have.
I then had a wide tyre nighttrain with big radius pipes on it and that even tho had a stock 1450 engine with just a force-winder and the pipes for engine mods was actual faster top end than the 1550 with the short shots on. Now I am back where I belong on a dyna again I have a set of big/long shots with the balance chamber and they work great. I did hear torque cones even tho meant for evo engines work well on twin camswithshort shots. It was an option I was looking at but the SE11s came up at the right price and looked better withthe t-sports bags on.
I do admit to be looking at some side shots My self but would like to see some dyno chart comparisons to see how well they work. Purley because the pipesI have now hide the JMC swing arm. Whsilt performance is important to Me,it does need to balence with the looksother wise I would be riding a buell or a ducati 916 again

The term "loud" is obviously subjective. I think it's fair to say that most posts I've read on this forum refer to the Short Shots as "loud." Some have even changed pipes because their Short Shots were too loud for them.

In my experience seeing/hearing riders with Side Shots those puppies are LOUD.

I have made no judgment about what's "too" loud. I simply stated that the rider who's concerned about volume should avoid the side shots.

Can't comment on the Short SHots - your first thread said the side shots were loud...Thump is right, though, as this is obvioulsy a mater of opinion. Mine is that the Side Shots with the quiet baffles (drilled) are perfect.

Get whichever model you like and add the quiet baffles. That should help keep the sound level down.
