forward controls
i'm 5'6" and stuck in the middle i feel the mids are a little cramped but the forwards are about an inch too far forward. The shift peg and bake pedal seem just out of reach. i could live with it if i had to. I got the adjustable highway pegs so i can shift and brake w/my heels when i'm using them but thats not to safe. i think next winter project are the controls but i was wondering if there was any way to adust any closer

I can't believe at 5'6" that mids feel cramped to you! I'm 5'10" and mids feel just right. I put highway pegs out front to stretch out if need be. About all I guess I could recommend for you would be to get the Reach Seat (52288-06) that Harley sells. It moves you forward 1" and also has a narrower front profile which also helps. However this will give you a 2-up seat instead of a solo.
TB I agree or you could check out LePera seats. They have a seat that is 3" forward. If you feet fit the forwards on a freinds bike you could reset the adjustsments for the brake pedal and move the shifter pedal. I have my shifter pedal above my foot and the brake pedal just below.
You could try this little gem on your forwards, all upshifts are done with your heel and the downshifts are done with your toes, but both are downward movements. It's made by Dewey's Pegs, I find it very comfortable.
