Default JamieWG; 06 Dyna Sert update?

Jamie, Been following your posts on the sert for the 06 closed loop model. Hows the tune going? Last we left off, you were tweeking the O2 sensor voltages. How's that comming along? Also, the VE tables were another point you were going to take a look at. Very interested in your research.

I also saw that there seems to be a second/newer HD stage I map that might be a bit richer then the original Stage I map. Wondering if this newer map comes on the latest CD or if anybody out there has looked at this map as their starting point.

James

I'm still around. Right after I started messing with my sert I got sick. I thought it was just a cold and I tried to tough it out. It kept getting worse, so I visited the doc and found it had turned into pneumonia. Today is my last day on antibiotics and I am feeling better now. While I was sick, I did a comparison of the two different maps from the last two CDs. I'll be posting an update soon.

Thanks Jamie, I ordered my SERT this morning from Hale's. I want to help out on this as much as I can and share information, maps etc. Hopefulle, my software will be up to date.

If possible, could you send me the latest maps? Not sure which CD I'll be getting and that new Stage I map has made me curious. Gonna tinker some

fl_799@yahoo.com

I'll be inquiring with all of the local dealers on dyno tuning the basic stage one combo using the SERT in the next few weeks while retaining closed loop functionality. If I can pull this off, I'll post the updated map.

FL,
I just ordered mine for Hale's so hopefully some of you guys can help walk me through it. I gotta wait on the dyno until I put a couple of more miles on the bike.

What did he do to the stock air cleaner? I missed that.

I think he meant he put the stock filter element back into the stage one download and air cleaner unit to restrict the intake change thus making the mixture richer. More then a few here have done it with good results (minus the drop in horsepower) given the state of tuning these things.

Angry_monkey, There's some good info here and over at the V-twn forums for the 06'ers with the sert. Jamie's really the only one spearheading this effort out in the open and learning as things progress. I've been in contact with a few individuals who have been running the SERT on their 06 bikes but their maps seems to be setup for open loop operation i.e. they edited the air fuel cells down to 13.9 and dumped the file over to the ECU. According to the manual, you must keep the air/fuel ratio at 14.6:1 to maintain closed loop operation (which I want). The only snafu to this whole Sert thing is how to richen the mixture without touching the A/F cells. As Jamie's initial posts pointed out, you have to adjust the MV settings of the O2 sensors. Higher values are richer, lower values are leaner. The range is something like 403-798 (I forget exactly). There is speculation that these adjustments are just not enough to get the mixture into the 13:1 range i.e. an O2 mV setting of 798 might only get you down to 14.1:1. Personally, I have no idea and the raw info is simply not out in the open.

Jamie mentioned another chart and tuning option; Editing the volumetric efficiency tables. More fuel can be added by tweeking these tables which just might do the trick.

I've been running a techlusion TFI and got exceptionally good results with it. The bike maintains closed loop operation while eliminating the lean condition and enhances throttle response. They work, they are cheap and they are easy to tune. I'm jumping down into a rabbit hole with going with a Sert but I think the results will be worth it in the long run plus the benefit of loading and unloading maps is more dealer friendly then removing a TFI unit my the dealer, who is not TFI/PCIII friendly, doesn't feel the need to void my warranty.

We're all in this together and can nail this if we put our heads together. Weather is good here and I have plenty of time. Lets roll.

I applaud the efforts of those who are experimenting with the race tuners on the 06 Dynas. HD clearly complicated EFI tuning by adding a closed loop O2 sensor. I think ultimately it is a good thing, but as all of the posts on this forum show, tuning an 06 dyna is not an easy task with the race tuner. If you are going to do it yourself, you need to understand the technical details of your twin cam to a degree that I personally feel most of us do not have. JMHO. I do not think that the race tuner is for the average 06 dyna owner. It is obvious that JamieWG is way ahead of most Dyna owners. He understands EFI and how the race tuner works. For him the SERT is a great idea. However, if you are planning on JamieWG to figure out your bike I think you are mistaken. Every HD twin cam is different, and his map may work for his bike, but the same map probably won't work on yours. You are going to have to have the sophistication to fine tune your own individual map. Again, that leaves an awful lot of folks out in the cold.

The race tuner is a great product. But it is complicated, and I dare say most shops don't have the experience to tune your 06 Dyna either. It is going to take a couple of years of experience by both owners and dyno techs to really figure out the 06 closed loop system and how to make use of the race tuner to get you up and running. Again, just my opinion. I suppose there are a few tuning centers that really know how to use the SERT on 06's but I'll wager they are few and far between.

A lot of us are in the postion of having an 06 Dyna with aftermarket systems and we have to do something. This forum in invaluable in offering insight and experience. I for one chose to eliminate the 02 sensors, and use the PC III to get my bike in a position where I am not lean and running properly. Is it a step backwards-sure! But I want to ride a bike that works! So far I am very happy with the set up. I haven't had the cold start issues and my canned map is great. I plan to dyno the bike at 1000 miles for a custom map. Will I keep it 2 years from now? Probably I won't. Hopefully by then either the SERT or someother ECM modification will be out there that really works. That's why I wanted to leave my ECM in a stock postion.

This is going to be an evolving process for us 06 Dyna owners. Do I wish I bought another bike? Absolutely not! Once all the bugs are figured out I think we will have one great running bike. But I don't think we have the right tuner yet. Or maybe we have the right tuner, but don't know how to use it. Either way we have to experiment. My thanks to JamieWG and all of those who post regarding their tuner experience. Ultimately most of us have to trust our dyno tech and use whatever tuner he feels most comfortable with. I had to leave that decision to him.

I spoke with the wrench at my Dealer and they are now just digging into the first few 06 Dynas with the new injectors and other mods. They told me that the MoCo will give them a spec for the new injectors based on what is coming out of the factory now since all the new production gets the 25 degree injectors stock. As for the mods what you said is correct. Every bike is different and should be tuned on a dyno to really get it right. You are talking about 4 hours x$75=$300 for the dyno time. They said I should put ALL my omds on then full tune and they will get it as perfect as you can tune the bike. They also said that if my bike runs fine to wait until Winter. They have sale prices on every thing then. Save a few $$.
