Hey Airborne, if you are planning on changing fork oil, from what I understand there isn't a drain plug on the newer forks. They have to be removed from the trees. That means the front tire has to come off. Nothing easy any more. If you are doing spring work, do one side at a time unless you have a jack under the bike to support it when the springs and front forks unload on you. Don't ask howI know about this.
Just did mine (07 WG) and the socket was a 1 3/8. If I remember right 1 1/4 was too small. Only place I found a socket that big was the local farm supply store, sears didn't have it. Also had to buy a reducer so I could use my 1/2 in socket wrench. IMO easier to use then a cresent wrench, the caps are fine threaded and are kinda a bitch to get started, with the socket i could apply equal pressure. Couple tips that I found out the hard way. Don't accidently drop the cap on the cement garage floor it will f/u the threads causing you to go one a three state search for a replacement. Also when I put the caps back on I put the fork tubes back in the triple trees first to hold them steady. It was much easier than trying to hold them and start the caps. Hope this helps.
