I picked up my bike yesterday and discovered a bonus fron HD. They (as mentioned before) replaced my speedo because of condensation issuesfor free. On the ride home I noticed a green lite on the speedo. It is a gear light. It only comes on in 6th gear. Is that normal or should it show all gears? I also noticed a clock built into the speedo. They also replaced the fork springs and heavy duty bushings because of the occasional "clunk". I was told there is a "service notice" on these and other issues if the owner "complains".
thx,OSP. I knew it was for 6th. But did not know if it worked on all gears. And my fuel light comes on when I have about 2 gals........I go by my odometer for fuel........
Wow, you must have had some bad condensation if you hadn't noticed those things before.
Yes the green light is the 6th gear indicator light and that's the only gear that lights up, for some unknown reason. Although with some riding experience on the bike, you'll know what gear you are in anyway. And, yes, they now have a clock on the speedo. The good news is that those aren't bonus features, many of us have them and it comes on the stock speedo. The bad news is, you are likely to still see condensation in the speedo and even the gas gauge from time to time. It's nature of the beast and will go away on its own. I'm surprised they even bothered replacing the speedo without just explaining to you that it's a "feature" and is normal. [8D]
And, good idea on going by miles for fuel. My light also comes on with at least 2 gallons left, or at least it used to before my tank lift. That's one light that is virtually useless IMO. Of course I haven't really figured out what the significance of a 6th gear indicator light is yet either.
For you folks with 07 and later bikes.......... Don's is an 06 FXDBI. The 06s did NOT have a clock or 6th gear indicator light.
Don, congrats on getting a FREE upgrade!!! You post has solved a mystery for all us 06 owners, that may have wondered if an 07/08 speedo would work on our bikes................. guess they do.
Doug, The condensation was VERY bad too the point of covering the entire inside of the glass. By the way,I have been riding since 1972. I only mentioned the indicator light because my 2006 didnt have these features. I know what gear I am in and if your looking at your speedo your going too slow..... Thx for your reply.....
Didn't realize when I read your post that you had an 06. Thought you had an 08 and got a new speedo on it. So, I guess those things were bonuses after all. If you call a clocka bonus. LOL. Whatever happened to ditching your watches?
