Default Rear Suspension

I also posted this in the suspension forum:

To start I have a 2007 FXDC and I really want to upgrade the suspension. I already know what I'm going to do in the front, so this is mainly about the rear. I know that Ohlins and Penske are top notch, but that's ALOT of money. Let me make a quick comparison that some maybe able to understand: Scotch, Johnnie Walker Red= stock, Blue Lable = Penske/Ohlins. I'm basicly looking for Blue Lable quality at a Gold/Green Lable price. YSS is looking like they might be the ones to get, but I'd really like some opinions on Works, YSS and Ohlins.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and any input is greatly appreciated.

EDIT: No offense to those that have posted, I am NOT looking at or for opinions on Progressives. There is more than enough info using the search feature that could keepme reading for a long time

I'm not sure what the Penske/Ohlins shocks go for but I went with the Works Performance shocks on my last 2 bikes and I'm very happy with them. I had the Street Trackers on the first bike and the Black Trackers on this bike.

Jimmy, I am playing/testing a set (5 sets) of YSS shocks right now. You are the first person who I have heard of talk about them. How did you find out about them? PM me on that because I do not wish to bore other members. We have them apart and on a few bikes. 1st thing was the spring rate is way too high. The valving does not even get a chance to work. The springs are 265 lbs/ea & progressively wound. The interior and system looks good but without springs to let the shocks move, we are stuck. I think (due to past experience) they should be around 125-150 range for a 175 person on a SG. AS far as the shim pack, we can not tell about the valving as the shock does not move enough to let the valving work.

By the way, they are rebuildable which should mean they are a lifetime shock. When we get the springs from the factory, I'll past after testing.

Here is the bike 2008 SG brand new.
The course we ride it over

What is inside. Some of the above brands do not have this quality of build. Take the other brands apart for yourself and look what is inside of them. Than take a ride with a good shock. It is good to understand what you are buying. [ul][*]These shocks do have the ability to re-valve both the piston and the shim pack.[*]It is also possible to remotely add a reservoir and change from emulsified to separator piston/nitrogen system.[*]The adjustable valving (Hi Speed, Low speed dampening and also rebound) is also upgraded with this modification. [/ul][*][ol][*]Bearing[*]½” height adjustment[*]60 click sweep valve[*]Removal seal head[*]Piston[*]Shim Pack (valving)[*]Billet end cap/seal head[*]Billet body[*]Progressively wound spring [/ol]

I've got the Works dual spring rate Steel/Street trackers as well - seem quite good - far superior to stock - probably not as good as "the best"
what are you putting on the front?

I went with the Works Performance Street Trackers and I'm VERY pleased. A step down fromPenske/Ohlins but plenty good for the FXD. I mainly went with Works because they will value and spring them to your needs, the price is reasonable and they are rebuildable.
