where are you graywolf?
and before hating on torx, are you using the right bits? they are a bit (haha) more critical to use the exact size - whereas you can sometimes 'cheat' an allen head. I actually found my problem with torx to be chippig the bit splines is easier since you can torque em harder
anyway - Napa out here in San Diego has a decent selection of grade 8 fasteners and sometimes a bin box or two of chromed pieces
but McMaster Carr has just about any imageinable bolt you can comeup with - they are online, have a really great website and ship extreemly fast - if you live in Socal, you can order by like 11 int he morning and have you parts delivered same day without special shipping
No I dont work for them, but theyve saved my a$$ more than anybody out there when it comes to hardware problems. plus, most everything thy have comes in multiple grade selections also
Im slowly changing out all of the external motor hardware to black oxide strain hardened fasteners for example
HD sells various chrome bolt kits and what bottomend said. Seems like there isalways at least oneAce hardware in the area that has a great selection of bolts. The one I use doesn't sell torx.
I agree with blackmopar, sometimes a Torx looks like it fits and is one size to small, it will turn if the head is not to tight. So make sure the bit fits the hole perfect and you shouldn't have a problem with buggereing it up. " I HAVE NEVER DONE THAT, BUT A FRIEND DID ONCE" Right...
I'm gonna go see Ace to replace the torx on my derby. Using the Cruztool sold at the dealer I managed to strip almost every head and completely warped the wrench itself.
why is it that the entire primary is bolted on with allen head bolts then the lil ole derby cover with about 12lbs of tightening on it needs a ****ing torx?
the worst torx bolt on the dyna imo is the front one of the belt guard- you simply cannot hit it straight with a torx and a ratchet, the coupler is too wide- i even went and got a 1/4" torx coupler and it still wont seat straight, and i can't get enough "torque* on the screwdriver type torx tool.
took the rear wheel off and had to remove the passenger foot rest that the cover is attached to so i could throw it against a wall before running it over a few times with the truck.

:-)
def right on that belt guard.. what a pain.. Also... isnt the derby cover T27?? Most kits dont come with the T27 size so people try the T25 only to fug em up
