Default 2008 parts availability?

Has anyone noticed that service parts, specific to 08 models, are not as available as they ought to be?

I was heading back from Palm Springs Saturday, and couldnt hold 6th gear climbing Whitewater grade, which is something I've never had a problem with before. Granted, I had a heck of a headwind, but its never been an issue.
Just for fun, I pulled the stock air cleaner cover off Sunday morning, and the AF was almost completely plugged with dirt, bugs and crap. 10k service is due next week, and the dealer did the 5k in January. I'm wondering if the filter got replaced at the 5k...
On to my problem...
I called several dealers Sunday trying to hunt a filter down. One of them was nice enough to do a search to see who had a filter, because they didnt have one, and havent had any shipped to them by the moco. As it turns out, only 6 dealers in all of California have air filters of the 08 half football. Luckily, one of the 3 in socal was only 80 miles from me and open on Sunday. Seems a bit of a stretch to get an AF, when I have 6 dealers withing 20 miles of me.

Does the moco really think the 08's dont need filters, or are they going on the assumption that everyone switches to high flow as soon as they buy the bike?

I'd guess they don't stock the filter because 99% go to a stage 1 setup with a different filter element and will never replace the factory filter.

I've been able to order a few of the 08 parts, but i ordered the blacked out Typhoon wheels over a month ago and they were due to hit the streets on 3/23, but have now been pushed back to 4/23. In a call to the moco about the availability of them, the woman on the phone said it was not a moco part, but a vendor and they were having problems. She got very snippy with me. I guess i wasn't the only calling to find out where my wheels were.

Same question I had in mind. System probably hasn't caught up to the part, yet.

They are gauze filtersand you can wash them with a water hose and let them dry? That'smy understanding.

Skaars,
I'm on the other side of Grafilthy Park from you

Mud and Doug,
From what I hear, the 08 is different and they gave it a new part number, 29191-08

It's a gauze filter, but it's too ugly to be washable. The last thing I need is for the filter to break down and have the motor start sucking fragments. I dont think I'd trust that. A mesh filter I'll wash
