Fitting tyres
Anyone fit their own tyres (that's tires to many of you
) ?
I just got 3000 miles on my rear Avon ... which is ok as I ride it ... but I'd like to save some cost by fitting myself if I can.
Just one of those jobs I've never done ...
What about balancing it ?

I have done it before as well... but with the powder coated wheels i had it done with a machine (plastic application pieces) so it did not damage the paint... but on other bikes i have... first one SUCKS! but after that the rest are much better

I have always changed my own tyres on my bikes,a neccessity of living on an island with no bike dealerships, its not so bad, take your time on the first one, make sure the beads are broken both sides, use plastic rim protectors and don't be tempted to use very long levers as you can damage rim or tyre with too much leaverage.
I generally don't bother with balancing prefering to try the bike first to see how it rides and in dozens of tyre changes have only had to remove the wheel again for balancing once ortwice.
Its also a good oppertunity to checkbrakes etc while you are there.
