i think u might have to stick with watcha got if ya don't want to change the master cylinder
The master cylinder does not get touched with either HD or Kury forwards. There is no brake bleeding or anything like that. You bolt the new controls to the frame and install new, longer brake and shifter rods and adjust them to the correct length, then install your pegs andmove the shift lever. That's it. With the Kury kit, you lock the mid-shift linkage behind the primary out of the way and install a cover over the old spline. With the HD kit, I believe you have to remove the primary cover and physically remove the mid-shift components and plug the hole where the old spline was.
+1 Kurrys took me an hour and I was not in any hurry

Highways pegs and mids are the way to go:

Mids + Highway Pegs = Better for carving curvs, better control, more agressive riding potentional, w/highway pegs = two postions for long rides.

Forwards = Looking cool and "what you're supposed to do with a Harley"

The mids are better around town and for agressive riding, and w/highway pegs you have more options for confort on long trips, better for both long and short trips.. the only thing forwards have going for them is the cleaner line/look on the bike.

i see.

the only forwards i've ever looked at up close had the master cylinder right there.

i never thought of going with the forwards, i like my mids for controlling the bike better with my legs and then have the highways for when i want to put my feet up.

I had the hi-way pegs and changed to forwards, rode that way about 6mos,and changed them back, I'm only 5ft.8in. but I never really liked them. I had them on my sportster and they were fine but on my Dyna I found that I couldn't ride as far without my a## hurting. Before I could ride all day no problem after could only ride about 2 hours. But that is me you may like them. I'm not bashing forwards they just don't work for me.
I'm in the same boat with you on height. I had forwards on my XL and loved them. Just added the Hwy. pegs to my FXDCand find that I'm stretching out a little too much to reach them. Gonna keep them on for maybe the longer rides, but I don't think they are going to see much use.

If you like the mids better for controlling the bike, then maybe forwards aren't for you. Contrary to what herr monk says, though, not everyone that gets forwards just gets them for styling. I'm much more comfortable and confident with forwards than I ever was with mids - probably due to my size and the fact that my knees are practically in my chest with the mids.

It's amazing how herr monk is never around here anymore since he got his V-rod (with stock forward controls ) but when someone starts a thread about forwards, out of the woodwork he comes.

+1

I have mids and highway pegs! I like to have the mids in city traffic and carving corners, and the ability to shift my legs for comfort!

I'm 6'. I got the forwards and like it. I tried the mid's on another StretBob and I hate it. The mids were always in my way when I moved the bike around.

Before I rode with forward controls, I thought there might be some issue with 'control' ... i.e., not having your feet directly beneath your center of gravity.

Since having ridden quite a while with forwards/floorboards, I just don't see it that way anymore.

It seems there is a false conception some hold ... or that by not forcing oneself to ride 'forward' some rely on the 'training wheels' of the mid controls. I don't understand why the MoCo even makes mid-contols ... whatever.

This seems to be a common issue ... people want to know 'what should I do? stick with mid- or go forward-?' Seems the best advice is still "to try it and see." Take a test ride on a Wide Glide ... where there's no place for your feet to revert to ....

I suppose for some it could actually be an issue of size/reach, but standard forward controls should be usable for pretty much anyone 5' 6" or taller ....
