So went riding with the wife yesterday. High 70's all day long. Ended up getting like 60 miles in for the day. I dropped her off at the house and said that I was going for a ride around the block, then stated she could take it for a spin after I was done. She has been riding it some in the neighborhood the last few weeks and she took the riders class a few weeks ago and finished great. My bike is a bit big long for her with the front pegs, but she's done great in the past. She was out riding and I'm in the house getting some tools to tighten up the sissy bar. (been rattling) And I hear my bike reeve up pretty high, I think nothing and say she's being funny that I'm not out watching her. I come out the front door and she has a frantic look on her face. "I don't want to ride anymore" she said and then I look over and see the underbelly of my bike. I stayed calm somehow and asked her if she was ok and what happened. She apparently likes to twist the throttle when she grabs the front break lever, (She did it alot in the ride class) got freaked and dropped it. She did the right thing by hitting the kill switch rather than letting off the clutch. So it could have been much worse for both of them. Bike is ok, some scrapes on the derby cover, mirror and clutch lever. Those things can be fixed easily. She keeps apologizing, and saying that she will never ride it again. I can agree.
Get her an older lighter cruiser to learn on like one of those suzuki savages, or honda rebels. Let her build some confidence, then if she persists step up to a sportster or early dyna. Sometimes fixing that problem is as easy as tilting the levers a bit up or down where they are comfortable. Having the ol lady on two wheels saves a lot of headaches when you want to go ride, and puts less wear and tear on your scoot not having to carry the extra weight of another person around with you. The Fat Bob, or any 06 and up dyna is a little heavy, has a lot of torque at the hit of the throttle, and can be intimidating to women with smaller frames.
