Hi All, I havea 1994 FXDWG, I wanted to go to a wider front tire and am in the process of putting on a Metzler ME880 120/70V-21 on a 60 spoke 3.25 X 21rim. I currently have a 180/55 Avon AM23 on the back and was lookingfor ME880 tire to put on the back. It looks like the only 180 ME880 tire I can find is a 180/55VR-18. My understanding is the R stands for Radial and you are not suppose to mix them with non radials. Basically my question is, can you run the ME880 120/70V-21 with the 180/55VR-18? Any help would be appreciated as I am a bit confused.

DIFFERENT CONSTRUCTIONS
We distinguish three different constructions: Bias tires = "-", bias belted tires = "B" and radial tires = "R". These different constructions feature different reaction capabilities to side and longitudinal forces. Therefore a combination of different constructions between front and rear can influence the motorcycle overall behaviour. Only the tire combinations listed in the motorcycle manufacturer's and tire maker's fitment charts are permitted.
Hi Ed, thanks for responding. I called Metzeler and talked with a rep and basically he wasn't much help. They won't say it is ok unless they have officially tested that tire combination on a particular model bike. Guess you can't blame them, they are just trying to cover there ***. I did go through there fitment chart and for the FXSTC they paired a non radial ME880 90-21 with an ME880 210/50ZR-17. Basically there wider low profile tires are radials and they do not make a 21" radial. Isaw in the J&P catalog for the ME880 280/35VR-18 that it can be used with any ME880 front tire. So I have no idea, from what I have gathered so far it appears that you should be able to use any 21" ME880 with any ME880 rear wheel, but that is just my best guess. If there is anyone using an ME880 21" front tirewith an ME880 180/55VR-18 or wider rear tire, could you let me know if you have any handling problems, thanks.
