Default Muffler autopsy

Thinking of modding my stock mufflers to improve the sound and I'm wondering if anyone has any pictures of the internals. I've seen a set of instructions for taking out the baffle tube, modding it and welding it back in but they relate to a Sportster so I'm not sure whether it would apply to an 06 Dyna muffler.

I advise against the mod.Used slip-ons are cheap and can be resold,if you buy a set and don't like them you can return to stock.Modified stock mufflers would be hard to sell.

I currently have the baffles removed from my stock mufflers which added alot of sound but now I'm getting a spark knock type of sound and the dealer said it's called pre ignition and it's due to the air/fuel mixture being incorrect due to the baffles being removed. I am installing a full exhaust now to correct the problem. The dealer said it's ok to remove the baffles as long as you get the ECM recalibrated and the bike dyno tuned afterwards.

Used stock mufflers are cheaper. I have V&H slipons at the moment and even with the "quiet" baffles in they're very loud and I will get a ticket for it here in the UK if I'm caught. I was hoping that modified stock mufflers would be less anti-social and will definitely stop me getting a ticket.

I have the street legal(in the USA) screaming eagle mufflers with the fiber packing removed and they are just enough louder to sound good without being obnoxious.Bought mine nearly new for half price.Could be what your looking for.Even withoutremoving the packing they have a deeper but legal tone. They fit well and are "tuned" for the bike.

I second the vote for used slip ons. You can find them real real cheap. Hell new ones do not cost that much either.

Like I said above, I already have slipons, they're too loud.

Anyway, time for a rethink, I've just realised there are catalytic converters inside the mufflers.

Ah now I see what the problem is. I will be dealing with that [:@] soon as I am moving to Germany.
