Hey guys, Bought my first bike last summer, a 2003 XL883C. I sold it in Feb anticipating moving up to something else. Rebates and taxes are all in, so I saw a nice (online so far), 2001 FXD with 34K in mileage. I don't know what to think of high mileage like that. Don't laugh, but I'm not sure if these engines are good for only a certain amount of mileage, are there concerns/known problems I should look for? Do you think it would be a problem trying to sell the bike in the future? Any advice or knowledge on the subject is welcome.
I had been looking at other rides, but with less mileage. The price seems fair, has studded bags, backrest, windshield, chrome cover and pass footrests. So far that's the extent of goodies I see on the bike. Seller was asking $8K last summer, (yeah the add never expired.)
Ask the seller for a receipt if the cam chain tension shoes have been changed yet, if not have this person knock the price down about $400.00 to cover that bill because they are probably worn. If you buy it and are willing to have that work done I would ask the dealer or who ever is doing the work to replace the lifters with the "B" part number. I've got a 2002 FXD and she is still running strong with 31K on the clock.
