My BS A/C filter element is now light grey

My BS A/C filter element is now light grey
When I installed it, it was red.
After a week or two of riding, it was light pink.
After a few weeks of riding it is now light grey.
Is this normal?
There is no difference in performance from when it was new.
Just curious..... I should mention I run my filter exposed as pictured below:

It's just the oil drying out. I run mine open too. If you park outside and the sun hits the filter it dries out real quickly. That said there is still oil in there and your filter is still filtering. Running an open filter though means you need to clean and re-oil more regularly that one that's not open. If you ride a lot and park outside a lot I'd clean and re-oil every 1-2 months. It's not that hard and only takes a few minutes anyways. Just don't over oil or you'll screw up your idle air sensor.
