Help !!! Plus Warning !!!!!!!
Now that I have read your posts this seems to be kind of a common problem. The dealer installed the new pulley along with other mods before I picked up my new bike. I didnt see a trace of Loctite anywhere. I am wondering if I should check the lug nuts on my truck? The HD shop will call me today for the towing. When I get her back up on the lift I WILL RETORQUE EVERY BOLT. I dont care if it takes a week. I have lost ALL my faith in the "service" dept..........THX AGAIN........
The reason I came up with the loc-tite theory is because I have a buddy a similar thing happened to couple of years back on his fat boy. I always got into the habit of visually inspecting the lugs (at the very least) before I ride and especially the first few times after I have any type of work done where they have to remove the wheel or pulley.

The tow truck took the bike today and everything is covered because most of the 2k in parts were put on @ time of purchase. It looks like they will put on a new wheel rather than playing with the bolt that broke in the hub. I called a couple of dealers and they said it has happened more than people think (mostly on Dynas). When I get her back I swear I will do more than check tire pressure and belt tension before I ride. I am making up my own pre-ride checklist because if that happened what else didnt they do? I hope this post makes people aware that the dealers quality is not what I/You think........ Hey Joe( JRK5892)when will your shop be open?
I always torque the sprocket bolts when I do any 1k, 5k, 10k etc service both on my bike at home and on customers' bikes at the shop. There is no excuse not to. I know most (not all) HD service manuals don't have them listedon the critical fastenerpage in the maintenancesection, but I definately consider them critical. Actually had a customer get a little peeved about it last week. He had the shiny snap-on bolt covers and one of the tabs snapped off when I pulled to check torque and we didn't have a replacement in stock. I hate those things, at most they are good to be put on and off 2 or 3 times. Anyways, glad to hear you came out alright and the dealer is covering the damage.
A couple extra thoughts. If you are going to be checking torques after services a couple others I would check would be the brake rotors (front and rear)and the engine mounts. These are the ones I most commonly find loose. I'm guessing the sprocket/rotors are because some people are to lazy to jack the wheels off the ground and spin 'em so they can check all of them and the motor mounts are kind of a pain without the right tool. I don't have my manuals here at home butusually the brake rotors are 16-24 ft/lbs on the front and 30-45 ft/lbs on the rear and sprocket bolts are 55-60ft/lbs. I'd verify thosenumbers in the manual for your model, but they are correct for my King and a bunch of other models
THX for the info. I did buy both the parts and maint books about a year ago. I will do the rotors and like I said before"every bolt" will be re-done.
