Help !!! Plus Warning !!!!!!!
I will try to keep this short. As a few of you know I ride an 06 FXDBI. Today I was out riding and all of a sudden the rear wheel locked up @ 45 mph. Somehow I got it to stop without dropping it and disovered that one of the 5 bolts that keep the pulley attached to the rear hub had come loose and wedged under the swingarm. I was able to get the bolt out and it was "C" shaped and a piece was broken off in the hub. I also dicovered that 3 other pulley bolts were not tight. I called HD since I just had my 5K service in April and they said "They dont check the torque on those bolts". Are they kidding me? I will find out in the a.m. what they will or wont do for me since they claim this is the 1st they have ever heard of such a thing happening. Please do yourself a favor so you dontlay itdown and check the pulley bolts............ I now dont trust my bike and will have to torque EVERYONE of the bolts on my bike and use a bunch of Locktite. Please tell me if anyone has had this problem. THX...
Did they put the chrome pulley cover on or did you?
If they did I would say it's their responsibility to repair.
Good to hear you managed to stop without damage or injury.

I saw one sitting in the service area at the Harley dealer a few weeks ago, very similar to that. All the bolts were backed out and bent, it was very close to breaking off, I guess the rider noticed it before the wheel locked up.

i went through the same thing at about 5500 miles. rode hard the entire night (granted i ride like an a-hole- wheelies, burnouts, everything you shouldn't do on a bike) and the next morning i went to move it forward and a bolt locked up against the swingarm. 3 were broken and hanging out and the other 2 were bent and cracked all around the threads. figured it was my riding style and made a post about it just warning peeps it could happen. cool party huh?
Wow, that sucks. Glad you were able to get it off the road safely. I've always gone over all the bolts I think were touched when having the bike serviced. I need to get in the habit of checking the more important ones like that on a more frequent basis.

Similiar thing happened here to a lady rider on her baggera couple of weeks ago- one bolt jammed against the frame and the rest sheared, luckily she managed to get it stopped without laying it down.
