Default Engine sound

Ok, so I'm needing a little help. I have a 92 Lowrider that is in smokin condition, runs great. I'm a little concerned because when I come to a stop, I hear some rattling noises from the engine. Then is stops and it might not do it again. Sorta strange, any ideas?

put a screwdrive up to the motor while it is running put the bussn end to the motor and the handle to your ear...yes you will look crazy but IT WORKS!!! that will let you know... i bet that it is your push rods... they need to be adjusted from time to time on the older dynas... i would sugest getting some adjustable pushrods if that is what it is... the old screwdriver stethascope trick! works every time! at the very least it will let you know where the sound is coming from... then come back and let us know, we can then try somethign else

I have the same sound on my 98 Dyna. No noise when cold, but once the engine is warm I get a light rattling sound that comes and goes. I've checked all my pipes, heat sheilds, clamps, brake and shifter levers, etc. It sounds like the noise is coming from inside the engine, on the right side of the bike. I can't seem to identify exactly where; I even tried with a stethoscope today. If I rev the engine, the noise dissappears, once back at idle the noise will come back -- sometimes right away, sometimes not.

Would a failing lifter make a light rattling sound? Other than the noise, the bike runs great -- lots of power, never overheats, oil, trans and primary fluids are good and clean. Last time I checked the lifter screen it was clean too.

One fix suggested was louder pipes -- mine are kinda quiet by HD owner standards. :-)

Sounds like lifters and if it is they are slapping the cam this will eventually damage the cam lobes. if it is push rods noise usually wont go away

Well, you can spend it on your bike or spend it on your ol' lady...unless she looks like a Victoria's Secret model, I would spend it all on the bike...but, then I am an old perv.
