I hate it when my nuts get loose, but it doesn't happen in cold weather.

I was getting a bit of a rattle and it took awhile but I finally figured out it was piston slap after changing lifters, upgrade to SE oil pump kit, rocker arm shafts etc. 96k on an 02 twin-cam. Replaced pistons and cylinders with the 95" kit---re-jetted (too lean was the cause) and now all is fine----117k now--runs great---and with heads and cams---it's pretty quick too

that's a really nice ride you got there I like how you have it set up . its no garage queen with those miles you put on it . I worried about piston slap maybe it is hopefully its not . I expecting a big bill at the end of it all even though my independent Harley dealer is not greedy but still parts and labour all add up . I will have my bike 10 years in January and its given little trouble only both starter solenoids the bendix gear the charging system and the carb any thing else was only consumables .

any trouble the bike gave was not the bikes fault it was down to my own mistakes a duff battery a bit of sabotage from an ex friend ( the jealous begrudging bastard ) and my sisters boyfriend messed with it too another ******* when I pulled him up about it he blushed up real bad id say he taught he was going to get a slap and dirty petrol . some people spend thousands of $ to upgrade to a newer model but not me I love this old girl .

so like your self I going to stick with this one and just get her back to her former glory and maybe a little more vroom and in the new year my road tax will be vintage being 30 years old and only cost $33 down from $109 this year . having that kind of miles on your bike and building a hot engine like that is pretty impressive a lot more to me that a garage queen with a load of bolt on snazzy bling that serves no purpose only weighs you down and robs your pocket but looks good when parked in front of starbucks or the titty bar

Also check the slack in the primary chain, could be slapping against the case. Exhaust shields working loose will give a tinny rattle sound, change those clamps.
