Default Help!!!

So, I picked up my Street Bob from the dealer and rode home about 30 miles keeping at or under 50 mph. Next day back to the dealer for something and at that time asked the guy who sold it to me about the engine break in. Because it doesn't have a tach I wasn't sure about the 3000/3500 rpm. limits that the manual talks about. Sales guy says 'it's okay, just keep it under 80.' Alrighty then...I can do do that. I was afraid of doing more than 60 mph. Today went out and drove a round trip of 150 miles varying the speed but rode some highway at 70 mph. Stopped at a dealer in another town (maybe I should stay away from dealers, what da ya think!!!) and he said 'oh no, 60 mph for the first 500 miles. What the F* ..did I f* up my bike by riding 70 mph within the first 500 miles?

No. Don't worry about it, these motors are built to last. You did right by varying the speed during the first 500mi and I'm guessing that you didn't do any burnouts or drag races either, so the engine, etc is all okay.

It's spelled out in your owners manual. The MOCO Says, 50-500mi..80mph in fifth gear on an 05. I would say on your 06 with a 6 speed your well within the range of factory recommendations.

You are fine. The real critical thing is that you vary the speeds and don't run it "hard". And everybody knows when they are running a motor hard. It's just as bad to run it too slow. Normal city stop and go, don't lug the motor, keep it in it's lower half of the "torque " pulling feeling in each gear and no redline stuff. Don't go on the freeway too long. If you can change the engine oil and filter at 500 miles and then again all 3 trans/primary/engine at 1000 miles. But you MUST change all oil at 1000 miles. My Dyna runs in 6th gear at 2500rpm at about 65mph and that is fine even 70 won't hurt it. Just don't go for real long same speed rides at any speed.

These motors are pretty bulletproof but its best to put your motor through 30-50 "thermal cycles" that is {dead cold to hot running temperature to dead cold} before it is completely "broken in". If you use synthetic oil give it 1500 miles before you really start to "nail it" with the throttle. The synthetic oils (I am told) break a motor in slower because they provide better lubrication.

This is all JMO.......but I have done a lot of research. Good luck

My Low Rider has a tach. In 6th gear 70 mph is around 3000-3200 rpm. I was told 3000 rpm for the first 50 miles and 3500 rpm up to 500 miles. You shouild be OK. Houston

My dealer told me to keep it under 50 for 50, then "ride it like you want, you couldn't hurt this engine if you tried". Riiiiiiiiiiight...

I agree with the others...good advice. You didn't harm your bike from what I can tell. Having said that, how about some photos of the new bike??? [sm=ttiwwp.gif]
