Hi all, I bought a 2008 Lowrider a few weeks ago (my 1st Harley) and have about 600 miles on it. I absolutley love the bike (nice upgrade from my Suzuki), but sometimes it takes a couple of tries to start (it will sometimes run for a few seconds and then stall) . It has also threatened to stall a couple of times at stop lights (but never has). A friend of mine says it might be the gas, but I'm putting in premium. I'm thinking it might be an idle adjustment. I'm taking it to the dealer in a couple of weeks for the 1K service, and will have them check it out. Has anyone had this issue? Enjoy the ride folks!
I've never had problems of that nature with FI bikes. There is no 'idle adjustment' per se. You need to take it to the dealer if this continues and let them check the system.
Have the dealership check your serial number to see if there might be recall (change in your mapping) when I purchased mine there were 2 on it...I do not understand why it was not caught at sales/pickup....but they did address it on the 1k service...good luck
Pull the plugs and have a look, sometimes an unattentive tek could bang one accidentally and close the gap,it only takes 5 minutes to check. While your at it check the cables to se if they are seated right.I'm in montreal and cold or warm i have never had so much as a cough from it.
Check the IAS (IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE) My 07 was hard to start, and would stall at stop lights. Of course the dealer couldnt find a problem so i ordered the valve my self and change it. Problem solved..
I find that if I let the fuel pump cylce before I start mine it starts very hard...but if I flip the kill switch and then fire er up...she starts right up no problem.
