OK, so they didn't bother to add the security system on my bike when they ordered it or after it came in. I pushed the issue and paid for the stock system when I got the bike and the dealer is going to install it for me for the same price as if it came on the bike. My question is, how many Fobs come standard if you got the system from the factory?
It's $345 if it comes on the bike, but as far as I can tell, there's only a $289 system under the accessories section on the harley website. Anyone know if there's a difference? They only show one fob, but I'm pretty sure there's at least 2, if not more, new.
Two FOBs and no siren. For the siren they wanted about $75 I think, but it would be a huge PITA to have that thing going off, so I opted out. I like the alarm system though.
Hmm... I just looked in the service manual and it appears to be about a 10 minute job to plug the module in. Makes me wonder if it could be taken out as easily to disable the system!
Here in the UK the standard spec is the full security system with alarm siren, and two fobs.
The siren's a PITA, as when removing battery you have to do it with the ignition on as there appears to be no way of isolating the siren in 'service' mode............[>:]
got 2 fobs with mine. no siren or pager. I haven't used the security system yet (4 yrs) Programming it is a pain in the ars and most jobs you have to disconnect the battery so you have to reprogram it all over again. rt signal 2 times lft signal 3 times rt signal 1 time blah blah blah. I wish I were smarter
Comes down to if someone ( who knows what they are doing) wants to steal your bike it can be done alarm or no alarm. Up in canada the alarm with siren costs $500 installed by the dealer andcomes with2 fobs. No way would they not give you a spare. And it saves me about $259 a year in insurance fees.I also had my dealer install this new thing called Harley Theif. It,s a series of stickers that leave a tatto on the bike, only visibleunder infrared. It cost me an extra 400$ ,but if the bike is romanced away from me Harley pays me 5000$ over and above what my insurer pays out. And I got an HD disc brake lock which I hardley ever use any more, prolly realized it's a little overkill, but if was going to park it some strange place for an hour or two I'ud surely slap it on.We do love our ride!
