Baffle removal tips - Torque cones - How will it run?
Hey guys,
I'm running some V&H big radius pipes and have been thinking of removing the baffles for quite some time, but didn't want to lose torque. So, after talking to a member from the softail forum (he's running BR pipes with torque cones and loves it) I decided that I'd give it a try.
Now, my question is.. my bike is running quite rich right now. If I were to do this, would it change anything as far as running to rich/lean? Will I need to have the bike re-tuned, or do you guys think I will be alright?
Also, do any of you have some tips as for removing the baffles from these pipes? I read they can be a pain in the @ss to get out.

I don't know about removeing the bafflesw on the V&H big radius pipes, but When I got my 94 FXDL it had straight through Cycle Shack drag pipes. I can say that adding the torque cones made a noticable improvement.

Unfortunately I have nothing relevant to this topic, i just wanted to say what an awesome looking bike you have. I just love the pin stripe... I just got my 08 Denim blue SB not too long ago, and that is definately along the lines of what i would want to do...
RE: Baffle removal tips - Torque cones - How will it run?
I ran my BR's with torque cones, no baffles for a couple of months and was getting alot of coughs and a few backfires on decel. Finally got a SERT and dyno and cured all that. As for removing baffles. One just fell out. The other took some effort. Remove the bolt from the outside of the pipe and screw it into nut from the inside of the baffle. Not far enough to to go pass the thickness of the baffle though. Then took a wrench and snagged the bolt head with the closed end, the other end in a vice and pulled hard. It came out.

I would not recommend punching out the baffles unless you remap.
From experience - I burnt a ring.
As well you will lose torque, and honestly - it sounded worse.

Thanks guys! Anyone else have some input?
And thanks for the compliments on the bike! I appreciate it. I think I'm taking the sissy bar off tonight. That will give it a low, cleaner look hopefully.

If it's like mine, the sissybar sideplates will be pinched in between the fender and struts fairly tight. Good idea to put some tape on the fender to protect the paint.

Anyway..you will lose serious torque if you just remove the baffles, I don't know about the cones, but straight pipes will....decrease torque in the mid range, I have experimented on my bike.
RE: Baffle removal tips - Torque cones - How will it run?
Well, from what I understand, the torque cones will give it enough back pressure to not lose any torque, and if it does, its barely noticeable. I think I may just give it a try and see what happens.
If I decide to change my mind, would I be able to install the stock BR baffles in again?
